The polls need to be eliminated completely from the selection process! That's a must! RPI and record should be primary!

It is going to be 8 teams from the start.
Win your division in the big 4 and you are playing for it.
1st round is Championship Saturday to decide the 4 conference winnners.
2nd round is the Champions Bowl and Rose Bowl
Final round is those winners for the NC.

I don't, but if the 4 confs play division games (8 teams) then championship games, then the NC game it is essentially an 8 team playoff! That's all I was saying, and what the coot was as well. Hey Bama didn't even win their division last year, under the current system Squat like that can happen. ESecPN arranged that game and that subsequently led to the current upheaval that we are seeing today!

But going to 8 teams lessons the importance of what teams do on the field during the regular season. Oregon, Arkansas, BSU, and Kansas St were good teams last year and deserved BCS bowls. They most certainly did not earn the right to be called national champions. Same goes for Wisconsin, Arkansas, Michigan ST, and OSU the year before.

Then Go To A 16 Team Playoff.....
May 20, 2012, 11:59 AM

Just like the FCS .... winners of each of each conference + 4 "at large"? Get rid of the "cupcake" games, go to a 11 game regular season. Don't understand that argument that a playoff makes the regular season less important. Sure the regular season is important, thats how you win the conference or build your resume for the at large slots....

How does it not weaken the regular season?
Last year, Clemson was a conference champ and we got beat by tech and completely embarrassed by state and lost to uscjr. My memory may be a bit fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure those losses happened "on the field." LSU on the other hand, went undefeated in a regular season that included wins over another conference champion on the road and another conference champ in a not quite neutral site game.
Under your scenario, those bad losses by Clemson would be pretty much wiped from the slate, and we'd have just as much of a chance at being national champs once the playoff began as LSU.
How in the world does that not lessen the importance of the regular season when 3 losses in the regular season still puts on you basically equal footing with a team that went undefeated in the regular season against a tough schedule?

. . . a playoff structure which involves 16 teams. Four in each super-conference of 16 (4 pods of 4 teams). And the conference winners on to the national playoff. There's the magic in the numbers. Whether it's best is too subjective. However, it does make a team earn its crown.

The thing I HATE about all of this is putting it in stone that a non-Big4 conf. team can NEVER be NC! Why can there only be 64 teams (max) that can be allowed ever to even compete for NC? There has to be some kind of RPI-type component in this, where (however unlikely) an exceptional mid-major or independent still has a hypothetical chance.

Why? because the schools with big athletic departments that generate lots of money don't want to share their money with the smaller schools.

Why does it have to be 4 super conferences? Why can't it be 8- 16 team conferences with the conference championship game being the first of the playoffs. Completely objective and true.

are acting like pseudo-quarterfinals. And it's a lot easier to manage.
Playing an FBS football game on a week's notice anywhere, whether home, away, at a neutral site - whatever, is a HUGE undertaking that I don't think anyone is prepared for. It's like mobilizing an entire army and transporting it from one front to another at a moment's notice. FCS schools are a lot smaller - they have less seats to fill and less staff to move around. The budgets are far less than the FBS programs. Pro teams have an infrastructure in place to support this (the size of their cities and public manpower is one benefit) - college teams do not.
It will be real interesting to see how just this one extra game they're considering will impact this. It's going to take some time to perfect it.
Imagine 80,000 fans all of a sudden trying to arrange hotel rooms and flights, tickets, etc. in a week's time - one team gaining a 4 hour to 1 day head start based on when the semi-finals are played. It's going to be a madhouse at first.

I believe there are like 35 Bowls In Place
May 22, 2012, 12:38 AM
|
|
I think the current Bowl sites could be used for these playoffs.
8 teams, 4 games (4 bowls) 4 teams, 2 games (2 bowls) 2 teams, 1 game (The Mother Of All Bowls)
Potentially, the eventual winner (and the opponent) will have to play 3 tournament games ....
They all were going to play in a Bowl anyway, so that's two extra games...
Lose a cupcake game in the regular season (ie the annual beating up the local community college team), and that's one extra game a year ....
I think we and the Lads could handle that
