Corbin cannot be a good coach. He coaches third base and internet rumor has it that his teams play tight.

The Rest of the Story

Jun 8, 2014, 11:15 AM

First let me say I know I know both men very well and have for over fifteen years.

Tim's coaching style is VERY similar to Jack's and was developed working under Jack. Their personalities are VERY, VERY similar.

The single major difference is that Tim is basically the top recruiter in all of college baseball.

Tim went to Vandy for a head coaching position and was greeted with open arms and was told he could have ANYTHING he wanted to make it work including essentially naming his salary for accepting the task of turning the program around.

Jack is his friend and his career mentor but if Jack was let go with anything other than full honors with everyone happy Tim would laugh at the prospect of returning to Clemson. He is a head coach at a program where he can have whatever he needs to get the job done and he is in the single best baseball conference in the country. He is NOT coming to Clemson.

Bottom line is that in Jack you have everything that helped Tim get to where he is right now.

Clemfan you sir are correct. It's a lot easeir to recruit at Vandy. The admin. at Clemson has been a problem the last few years.

"Admin is the problem..."

Jun 8, 2014, 1:56 PM

What does that mean?? Please be specific!! Is "admin" out there in practice everyday teaching the finer points of fielding and hitting?

No excuses. 15 years ago Leggett was an effective coach with an outstanding staff under him. Now he is ineffective and there's criticism of his staff. And this is "admin's" fault? I'm not buying it.

I know them both well too. Was with Corbs this week

I agree on a few points from a couple of you:
Corbs would not come here if Jack is fired
He probably would not come here either way because the advantages of the academics of Vandy, Nashville and using the SEC argument do help in recruiting.

But I very much disagree they are not the same type of coach. I was a part of both programs vandy is run different and the players are not tight like they are perceived here.

Is this the Rest of the Story

Jun 8, 2014, 1:18 PM [ in reply to The Rest of the Story ]

Then I must ask you, Steve--Why do the Vandy players appear to be having fun for the most part and the CU Tiger guys were going through the motions many times? I agree with you--Why would Corbin leave Vandy to be head coach at Clemson?
Finally, if Tim C. is coaching just like Jack---How is it that his guys appear to be savvy in making plays in the field and running the bases?

One part of the story you left out...

Jun 8, 2014, 1:50 PM [ in reply to The Rest of the Story ]

Under Jack Leggett, the Clemson baseball program is CRASHING. The personal feelings of fans, positive or negative towards him, don't change that.

You talk about Corbin having "anything he wants"... what is it that Jack Leggett lacks at Clemson? You act like we're in the Stone Age or something. That seems a weak excuse to me. Leggett has EVERYTHING he needs to be successful. Yet, the program is nosediving. If there isn't DRASTIC improvement next season, he should be fired.

The bottom line: two programs going in opposite directions***
