The only way the NC playoffs should be

A 16 team playoff is the only way to crown a true nat'l champion in D1 football

It should go like this in my opinion

The conferences out of the power 5 that have championship games are held in the first round of the playoffs
so

Round 1
ACC C vs ACC A
SEC E vs SEC W
PAC 12 N vs Pac 12 S
Big 10 E vs Big 10 W

Those not in the power 5 and others get one team in
Round 1
Sun Belt vs Big 12
AAC vs Mid American
Conf. USA vs Mountain West
At Large vs At Large

This set up will allow for 2 at large teams to round out the field yearly. So any conference can gain another team in or independent can get in if they merit it.

This also takes out the eye test which we all know is arbitrary to begin with. And the pollsters are out too. I don't think you should be able to be the national champion if you can't even win your own conference.

I would want to move to the BIG 12 then. Teams with a conference championship wouldn't go for that.

cut a BS game like last week's schedule to make room for a potential round of playoffs.

I like the 8 team concept. Goes like this:

5 champions of power five conferences
1 highest rated "mid-major" (Marshall, C Florida, etc.)
2 at large bids go to the highest rated teams not from above


**requires all 5 power conferences to have a championship game.
**in most years the #1 rated team will play the "at-large" mid major. Consider this sort of a Bye for the #1 rated team. Gives incentive
**first round games played at higher rated teams home field
**bowl tie-in/games begin with final four teams as done currently

I like this except for the "must have a playoff game". I don't think the big 12 would be at some type of advantage for not having to play one. They will still play as many conference games.
