The media hates Dabo, we all get that. Any opportunity to spin him in a negative light is seized upon. There was this story as the year started that Clemson couldn't develop QBs, we all saw it. A certain QB who shall remain nameless leaves Dabo for better coaching. The national narrative, anyway....
It starts off great, the new team is ranked highly and beating weak teams until a trip up with Washington State. Then a solid win against Utah and the story has legs. Beat some more weak teams, then finish the last 5 games at 2-3 with strong play in a home game against Washington but getting curb stomped the next week at Oregon. It's clear this QB is EXACTLY who he was at Clemson. Same record and nearly identical stats. He is no better nor any worse than he was at Clemson. Some in the media still are trying to spin this as a "rebound year" for him, yet...
He sits now in the transfer portal as the 14th ranked portal QB, behind such players as... The backup QB at Georgia, the QBs for Mississippi St, Toledo, New Hampshire, and Coastal Carolina. And the media has let the story die, finally.
I did not write this as a slam to that QB. I wish him well, as I always have. He is the same player he was at Clemson, ability-wise. This was written to call out another failed media narrative, who hate all things successful, all things done the right way. Why are they that way?

Ever since social media became the main source of “news” for the American public, they only write stories that will pull on emotions. People are very emotional in both their love for their team/university, and their disdain for their rivals and most other successful programs. The people writing these stories are more like drama novel writers than reporters.
It is what it is.

They’re jealous because we can be so successful being out in the middle of nowhere. I embrace it. It’s always satisfying accomplishing something when someone tells you you can’t. So I say bring it on, Their negativity has never worked before.

I don't suggest that QB1 is a "great" or even "very good" QB. Though anything written on this board that doesn't trash him, gets you as a commenter skewered as surely and quickly as a good Knight's sword.
However, I also don't believe the rankings that you have quoted as being particularly even-handed or even scientific.
According to ESPN's 2023 QBR rankings, QB1 finished 12th on the season, a slot behind Caleb Williams of USC and a slot ahead of Jordan Travis of FSU.
The NCAA had him at 45th in passing efficiency.
Different stats for different people, and it's clear people have differing opinions.
What's also clear though is that people here - on this Board - did not watch all the games this year. Stupid comments like "he throws it into the ground" pop up routinely not because they're correct, but because people just want to get their piece of him for whatever reason.
Simple fact is that QB1 isn't inaccurate, he's just inconsistent with this accuracy. Case in point in his last game against Oregon, the TV truck ran back one throw he made 4 times, with the announcers proclaiming they didn't even see how the ball fit into the space. It was a back-footed throw in the face of a rush and with no time to throw as well.
Problem is, that he can't make that throw if he can't make the decision to throw. And he likely can't make that throw twice in a row.
One final thing: if you watched his game against Washington and Michael Penix Jr., Penix in no way separated himself from QB1 that day, as it was in horrid weather. Their stats were essentially identical. Further, Penix's main receiver was 6'3" and 215 pounds (went for 106 of Penix' 160 passing yards). QB1's top receivers were both only 5'7", and were covered up by UW's DB's all day. Yet QB1 basically identical stats as Penix.
Again, this isn't to support QB1, just clarify. He's simply not as bad as people want to make him out to be.
Understanding the next to last comment might be vital to Clemson and its fans as well. Big, fast DB's can routinely nullify short, fast WR's. But big, fast WR's aren't going to be consistently nullified by any DB's if the QB can get them the ball. I fully believe that had QB1 been quarterbacking Washington that day instead of Oregon State, his stats would have dwarfed Penix, and QB1 would have won the game. But for a bigger receiver....

My wife is an Oregon State alum. We watch every game we can on tv in South Carolina. I’ve been to a handful of their games in the past 10 years. I watched him play a lot this year, I’ve also coached Varsity football.
He IS NOT a good QB. Once again, someone is posting based on emotion, not facts.

Nobody is saying QB1 can't make stellar throws or even have stellar games. His record setting first start at Notre Dame is evidence. But the wealth of data over 3 years shows his weaknesses as well.

By rule, I'm a "Shake His Hand And Wish Him Well" kind of guy, but...
In football terms being "inaccurate" is the same as being "inconsistent with his accuracy." No one is (or at least no one with a football IQ) is saying he "CAN'T" make good throws, but rather he doesn't consistently make accurate throws.
But again, no reason to attack him or defend him. I wish him nothing but the best, and put my attention to the folks who are here.

It was basically a setup. We win and no one would remember it the next day. We lose and, oh boy, they have ammo for all offseason to say "See We Told You So, Your Culture Doesn't Work".
