The Chargers realized that they had to double team Hunter

Renfrow last night, and did a pretty good job of it. Yet, that slippery little debil STILL managed to snag two touchdown passes. That's a pretty good late round draft pick right there!

Then late, the game turned into The Mike Williams Show. The Raiders had NO answer for Mikey once Herbert started targeting him.

Best advertisement for Wide Receiver U that you could ever see.

And, a GREAT back and forth NFL game where both teams cared if they won or lost for a change.

Not only did I never hear them mention they both went to Clemson, but it was also the 5th anniversay of the 2016 National Championship game which was played January 9, 2017. It would have been the perfect opportunity to say that and remind folks about that team that beat Alabama. Both of those guys had such a big part in that. It wasn't mentioned.

He was able to get the TDs because the way they were keeping him from getting catches for most of the field isn't as easy in the red zone.

They were using a bracket on him with the corner and safety with the corner staying outside an underneath and the safety staying inside and over the top a little more.

Once they got near the goaline, the field shrinks which is usually easier on the defense, but it also means that it's harder to double team a WR because of the extra TE and RB options in the passing game. Safeties have more responsibilities in tight like that.

Renfrow took advantage of that twice and was able to get 2 TDs with only 4 total catches.

Renfrow was able to get the TD catches because they were very short routes.

That's what makes Renfrow special as "Mr. 3rd Down" and "Mr. Short Yardage TD"

Most defenses are not accustomed to assigning extra players to stop the pass on short yardage; in most regular situations the Offense has no need to design a pass play that covers only 2 or 3 yards. Therefore, most D's are not as practiced in loading up to cover a WR that runs a short route. After all, if the DB's are double teaming WRs at the goal line, then the Offense is much more likely to be successful with a running play.

Renfrow breaks the DBs ankles with his double and triple moves in tight spaces; a crack opens up in the D and the QB can fire a crisp throw to the (sometimes just a little bit) open Renfrow, and with his superb hands doesn't drop the fast-ball pass.

TD or First Down ... depends on the situation.
