would it benefit us to take it easy on BC?

what if we win by 10, rather than 40....
BC looks better to pollsters and may garner a few votes. That way, the win looks better, b/c it was against a "better" BC team. If we blow BC out, the win may lose some credibility.

Scorch the earth. Make them fear to ever play us again. Make them hate us with every fiber of their being. Make them curse the heavens and demand to know why they couldn't be us.
No mercy. This year is a reckoning. Remember Matty Ice. Remember Aaron Kelly's drop. Remember the missed PAT in 2006. Send a message to every team we play.
Make Miami say after our game, "Oh ####. We're next."

I like the way you think . . . but in the end

I think that's slicing and dicing it too finely. It would be a fairer point if BC were looking to be an 8 or 9 win team ( I suppose 8 is not out of the question, but I think pretty dang unlikely), and the difference was between them as a solid 8-win team or a "fraudulent" 8-win team. But chances are that BC will be a 7 win team AT BEST if the ball bounces their way against VT, UL, NCSU and SYR, and possibly well under that if it bounces their way less than 100% of the time. I seriously doubt any of the powers that be are going to split hairs between whether we beat a "B-minus" 6-6 BC team or a "C+" BC team. I just can't imagine it coming down to that. If BC is anything less than 8 wins than they will likely be seen in the same category regardless of whether we beat them 34-3 or 17-7.

The benefit we'd get for kicking their butt would be greater than the benefit we got for them looking halfway decent in the process. Just think about it - they can't look good by playing us close without us consequently looking less impressive for having beaten them close.
I see no real reason to ever try to go easy on a team. THe best we can do is hope that they perform well in other games, so as to make our beat down of them look more impressive.

"take it easy" is not, and had better not, be a concept

anyone on our football team or staff understands. You can take it easy when you're milking the clock or in the victory formation. Other than that, 100% 100% of the time.

We may not have to take it easy to...

to only win by 10... BC has a stout offense. Addazio should go be a def coordinator somewhere.
However, if we have a two possession lead against BC it might as well be a 40 point lead. They have no offense.
