Tell me about Lot 1

Parking there for the first time this year? Anyone care to give me the lay of the land? What time do they open? Are you able to save spots for friends, or do you have to come in together?
I've heard you don't get a signal in the back of the lot due to the trees, where's the best spot if you're setting up a TV?

Crowd is mostly late 20s, and most definitely like to party. We've been holding down the Mellow Mushroom for the last 8 years or so.
Obviously I'm familiar with lot 1, as we've passed through it going to every game. Just never parked there.

Do not bring hay. Who would throw down hay on a nice grassy field?
Come late to Lot 1. The best spots are available when you are late.
Bring lots of footballs. You will need them.
Don't leave cigarettes sitting out on a cooler. People will steal them and run off quickly.
It is pretty much flat terrain.
Tip your parking lot placard checker. They expect tips.

Get there early and don't expect to be able to hold a spot for anyone else. Some years they have been nicer than others about letting you park where you want so I don't know what will happen this year.
The last time Gameday was in town, I pulled into the lot at about 7:30am and it was 1/4 full already.
Stay away from the trees if you want to get a good tv signal unless you have a lot of cable. I always tried to park near the tennis courts about halfway between the road and trees.
With the rain like it has been, well...the last time we had this much rain, the whole middle of the lot became a mudhole. I spent a lot of time pulling people out of the mud.

Thanks for the info man! Most of the group is wanting to start drinking/tailgating at the lake and watch gameday on the tube, then head there about 1:00. I don't think this would normally be a bad idea, but can't imagine how full lot 1 will be by that time.
Really hope it stops raining. Should still be plenty of time to dry out some b/w now and then if the weather cooperates.

will trek back to tailgate around 3. (I don't park in lot 1 anymore and have a #'d spot...no worries there)
Staying from 7am until probably 1am makes for a long day...

It normally fills up around the edges first so you'll probably end up in the middle somewhere. Years ago, they didn't police the lot very well and many pass holders would get turned away if they arrived late. I don't know how they will do this year, so I'd keep that in mind.

I think it rained every home game that season including the opener against MTSU when there was a ZERO percent chance of rain. It started raining at halftime and rained off and on for the better part of the second half. That was also the year of the lightning delay (two of them) against BC and the monsoon game v. TCU
