Do you have any issue with what Grand Canyon University was doing, independent of religious affiliation? Let's see if you read your own article.

I read the entire article.

Congressional Rep DeLauro (D - Connecticut) is engaging in hyperbole in hopes of discrediting a private faith platform college; these private faith based colleges are anathema to the private ‘secular’ colleges who compete for students who don’t want to go to the big public universities.

Here is where DeLauro blew her cover (C&P below):

"Last year, your Department took action against Grand Canyon University, a predatory for-profit college, over the school’s failure to accurately disclose its cost to students, driving up the true cost for those students requiring for them to pay for continuation courses before they would graduate – scam courses added about $10,000 or more to the cost of education to these kids," DeLauro said.

The operative adjective is “scam” as Ms. DeLauro used to describe Grand Canyon’s courses.

Talk about “scam” courses that do not provide any useful purpose in educating students to attain high paying jobs … social justice majors, DEI centric courses, junk like this permeates the curricula of private ‘secular’ colleges. These easy majors / courses are worse for graduates’ earning prospects than if they had never attended college at all. Yet, Ms. DeLauro goes on this attack on the rare faith based private college and ignores the hoard of profiteering secular private colleges with their useless majors / curricula.

Whether a course is considered a "scam" is a matter of opinion, be it a course about Jesus or DEI. Whether the costs and mandatory requirements to graduate for those courses is disclosed is what's being litigated here. Are you not tracking on this? I get that the religious persecution angle pushes the right outrage buttons for you, but if a state school offers a course about African Studies and discloses the cost up front, and GCU offers a course about turning water into wine and does NOT disclose the cost (or that it's required to graduate), which one do you have an issue with?

Because the BOT votes to raise tuition and fees every summer. That's happened for the past 20 years.

He's right, though. You are looking at this wrong way. You're correct that the school shouldn't be targeted but you're too caught up in religious rage.

I’m comparing private secular college curricula to private Christian school curricula.

HoR rep DeLauro has taken a private Christian college to the verbal woodshed for doing the same thing that hundreds of private secular colleges do. Yet, to Ms. DeLauro, the problem that requires govt intervention is the tiny edge. The fat center? Nothing to be bothered with.

is that actually what is happening.

In response to Cardona's comment about shutting down universities like GCU, a GCU spokesperson told Fox News Digital that "officials continue to make derogatory and inflammatory public statements that are legally and factually incorrect and not shared by any of the other 26 regulatory and accrediting bodies that oversee GCU."

"The Secretary’s comments to the House Appropriations Committee were so reckless that GCU is demanding an immediate retraction, as they do not reflect the factual record in this case. He is either confused, misinformed or does not understand the actions taken by his own agency," the spokesperson added.

But they're a private institution. I think the government should stay out of this one and instead start targeting public universities that are gouging students to line admin pockets.

But if they're going to take this route, they're better off looking at the public universities first. I also don't like the idea of "shutting down" a private university over this. Fines seem more in order.

$37.7 million fine imposed by the department in November on allegations that the Arizona-based higher learning institution misled students about the cost of its doctoral programs over several years.

The fine is much larger than what the Department of Education previously gave to schools like Penn State ($2.4 million) and Michigan State ($4.5 million) for failing to address Jerry Sandusky and Larry Nassar’s crimes, respectively.

Indeed, the far bigger problem is, as you stated, the public colleges that are ripping off the students / students’ families with exorbitant fees necessitated by ridiculous expenditures such as exorbitant ‘student life enhancement’ entertainment facilities that, at best, provide only minimal contribution towards the students’ mastery of their curricula.

Why on earth would the US Congress want to take in an issue that, if fixed, would generate a huge benefit to the public? Colleges and Universities are among the top lobbying entities to state governments. The US Congress isn’t typically in the business of angering their underlines in the state legislatures.

All public colleges are now predatory for-profit colleges at this point. The for-profit part going straight into outlandish administrator salaries.

Which is why I would think you would support some government crackdown, finally. The "Christian" part has nothing to do with this.

Aren't you and others anti-college lately?

EDIT: Since I don't ninja edit when I'm wrong, I see GCU is private, so thus I change my opinion the government should crack down on it. It's a business. Leave it alone.
