He could jump out of the building, rebound, dunk and had a killer jumper. You need to Google some video of him.

I remember a game Maryland played against UNC at Carmichael (I believe). I think Bias was a Jr or Sr at the time. Anyway MD was behind by 6 - 8 points the best that I remember with 10 or so seconds left in the game. Bias was instrumental in the MD come from behind win and beating UNC with Jordan playing. It was a wild and exciting finish to the game. But, that was back when the ACC was THE PREMIER basketball conference.

He was awesome. I also watched David Robinson at Navy in the tourney and he impressed me almost as much.
Then there was Muggsy Bouges, what a freak.
But anyway, there was a reason Larry Bird was going to attend rookie camp with the Celtics.....he was that impressed with Len Bias.

and that Lefty knew of Len’s drug problem and did nothing about it so that the Terps could keep winning.
I don’t know what to believe, but the sadder part of the story is if that was the 1st time he had used cocaine and then had the heart attack.
For an athlete of his physical prowess, to see that dose of cocaine end his life that quickly should be enough reason to never use that stuff.

Thompson as the most athletically gifted college players I've ever seen. He was that good.
edit: For those of you not familiar with David Thompson, he was only 6-4 but had a 44-48 inch vertical jump... legend had it he could make change off the top of the backboard... like, leave a quarter and swipe off 2 dimes and a nickel.

I saw David Thompson shatter a backboard at a Citadel basketball camp in the 70s. Way before anyone had heard of Darryl Dawkins. He was playing in an exhibition game at the start of camp. We were sitting on the floor all around the court. One of my HS teammates ran onto the court and grabbed a piece of the backboard. I don’t remember if that was the same year Tree was at the camp. I went 4 years. Tree and Stan Rome were there at least a couple of those years. Stan coached my 3 man team one year and we win the 3 man competition that year. I only remember David Thompson being there one year so it was probably the first year I went.

One of the last games he played in college...Maryland was down a couple of points with time running out. They got a turnover under their own basket. Bias took the ball out to throw it in. Everyone was covered. So, he threw the ball off of a defender's back, jumped in bounds, grabbed it and dunked it! I'm thinking he scored 8 points in like 15 seconds.
I also think he was on something that night.

Len Bias, David Thompson, Michael Jordan, and David Robinson are the best college basketball players in my opinion in terms of athleticism, skill, and dominance.
Edited to add: Wilt Chamberlain. Before my time, but incredible skill and athleticism. He’s the GOAT in my book (college and pros), and it isn’t even close.

He was Lew Alcindor in college. I agree that he was incredible, but I was thinking basketball dominance as well as freakish athletic ability.
For your list, Bill Walton should be on there too.

Saw him take over a game against Georgia Tech back in my grad school

…days at Tech.
This was when Mark Price was point guard at Tech. I thought Tech had the game in hand against the Terps.
Bias went on a 2nd half tear that was just shocking to watch. I believe that 4 of the Terps could have stayed on the defensive end of the court and allowed Bias to just play 1 on 5 against the Jackets, and I think the Terps would have still won that game.
I was truly saddened to hear of his death.

Sadly, the thing I remember most about Bia was his untimely drug-related death, the fall-out from which would prompt the resignation of Maryland athletic director, #### Dull, along with head coach Lefty Driesell who had coached at Maryland for 17 years.

Improved every year.
Year 1 - Jumper, Dunker, Shot Blocker, somewhat awkward in space. Year 2 - Greatly improved. Year 3 - Well rounded game. Dribbling, mid-range shot & defense improved. Superstar.
Best comp for me would be a stronger and still developing Dominique.
