Streaming to watch our games?

Aug 14, 2021, 12:33 AM

I'm sure that it's been discussed before, so sorry if already posted. That said, we cut the cord a couple of mo that ago when my $79 cable bill had become like $159. So, how can we watch the games with a clear HD picture? YouTube TV sounds great but it's like $75-ish per month. I have ESPNU on ROKU, have watched ACC network games in years past but the picture is crappy and if it's on ABC or ESPN.. So... suggestions?

We’ve been happy with YoutubeTV. We cancel when DT starts and pick back up when Hill Watch = 0.

Didn’t watch any MLB, NBA, or Olympics and haven’t missed a thing worth watching.

I cut the cord and I’m doing something very similar.

I bought a Mofi4500 4G wifi hotspot modem/router for $299 and get unlimited data through Visible for $40/month (taxes and fees included).

Visible was started by some executives from Verizon. They buy data from Verizon in bulk and resell it.

I also switched my cell service from Verizon to visible. I get unlimited data, text, and cell service for $40/month (taxes and fees included).

That’s $80/month for unlimited cell service and unlimited Internet.

You can get five Sim cards from Visible for $100/month. That’s like cell service for a family of 4 plus unlimited Internet for only $100.

I get my live TV and sports through YahooTV and I have Hulu Plus and I’ve been an Amazon Prime subscriber for years.

Actually, these days about the only sports I watch are Clemson. I’ve had enough of these greedy selfish woke athletes. But I am looking forward to watching Trevor Lawrence this season.

If I could subscribe to ESPN during football season without having to go through Hulu or YouTube I would. I rarely watch live TV outside of Clemson sports.

At first I tried Hulu but their live TV service does not work with a hotspot. They don’t allow hotspot streaming. So I switched to YahooTV.

Within the next year or two, however, a better alternative to wifi hotspots might be Elon Musk’s Starlink.

So that’s my solution. Would be interesting to know what other people are doing.

Anywhere from 5 to 25MB/s which is slow compared to cable, but I often have something streaming on my TV, working on my laptop, and doing something on my phone at the same time.

The problem is certain times of day when cell towers get overwhelmed. Sometimes it’s really fast sometimes it slow.

I haven’t had a chance to play with it too much but I need to test some different cell towers and different channels. Most cell towers transmit on multiple channels so you need to play with it over a period of time testing different towers and different channels do you get the right combination.

I also have not connected an external antenna yet. I think that will greatly enhance performance.

For the most part it works really good. Even my Comcast high speed Internet had periods where it would be very slow or sometimes stop. That was another reason I got rid of it. Paying that much money for something that should be nearly 100% reliable and super fast. But it wasn’t.

It certainly isn’t fast, but I don’t really have problems streaming on multiple devices. And when you consider how much money I’m saving and the fact that it’s portable it’s hard to complain.

I’m planning to put up an external antenna and dial in the settings better before football season starts.

I cut the cord with Dish about 8 months ago and was like you, getting ripped off. I live in the edge of the N. Ga mountains and my choices were limited. For me it came down to 2 choices. YouTube or Hulu and after much research I went with Hulu.. I got the live tv plan for $64.99/mo + the add on “entertainment package” +$7.99/mo. I’m not a sports junkie except for Clemson everything! I get all of the Clemson stuff via all the espn’s + acc network and abc. For me it came down to a few “other channels” that Hulu offered that YouTube tv didn’t as part of their entertainment package. The Hulu channel navigation is a little funky but it’s not a big deal for me. I’m happy with it. Good luck!

I cut the cord and went with Hulu plus I have a $20 indoor antenna from Amazon. Hulu works great and I kill it in the off season. Between Prime, Netflix, Peacock and free networks I have more tv than I can watch. I had to update my router and wireless modem but now get a great picture. Your pic quality is usually a function of your equipment vs the app used

Try this through your phone. Use a cast to app or a phone hdmi cable to connect to TV. Some channels require a VPN but most do not.

so I punched this in on my computer and my phone and the ACCN is playing. Will this work during football season? Will it be free? BTW, what is a VPN (sorry, I am old)?

A VPN is used to mask your true identity…because the site is illegal.
