Speaking of tombstones in the graveyard....

I enjoy every now and then going to see the tombstones from all of our top 25 road victories. I especially love the National Championship tombstones. However, how many of you would like to see a new graveyard made near the stadium so more can enjoy it? I mean really put some money into it and make it part of the experience of Death Valley and make it look like an actual graveyard. I think the spot now is very nice near Reeves but not many visitors know it is there. It would also be great for visiting fans to be able to see them and I am certain a lot of visiting fans don't know about the tombstone's or even know where they are located. I think it is very unique for Clemson Football and I would love to see some more put into this. Maybe I am just bored on a Tuesday morning. I need coffee.
Thoughts?

There’s already a real graveyard right next to the stadium.

Yes, I know but is a real graveyard. I am talking about one for our football tombstones maybe on the Littlejohn side of the stadium near the IPTAY office. Something we can showcase our tombstones for all to see.

Maybe a mausoleum would be a better solution that would take less area and conserve the land.

I don't think the Tombstone Graveyard was ever intended

to be a display for public braggadocio. It was put there for our guys to see on their way to "work", so that they would have another reminder, that this is WHY you work so hard. That is why there is only a short, understated celebration as each new stone is laid, then, it is back to work.

I agree this is probably what it was initially intended for. However, it has now taken on a life of its own. There were numerous posts last week where posters were talking about Wake Forest being a tombstone game. I think it has turned into something bigger than initially expected. I really think the fans enjoy it. I believe the players do to but I am sure after the initial placement of a new tombstone the players aren't walking out there and looking at them and reminiscing like us fans do. I feel it has turned into a tradition and it would be awesome to see more put into it for the fans and the players. Just my opinion.

Mixed opinions. I like what you're saying and make it a natural tailgating area with benches, landscape etc.
On the other hand, I tend to agree with 76er. I might be better inclined if we had an area like that with just top 10 and championship tombstones. Think how big many teams would be compared to ours. Like a Fla who's would quadruple ours because of the way rankings have always been... Even 60 and 70's. Can you imagine how many Bama or OSU would have.

On a trip to campus awhile back, I wanted to show the tombstones to my daughter and we couldn’t find it. Where the heck is it?

Outside of the Reeves Complex near the practice fields but the gates are sometimes locked and you cannot get into the complex area to see them. Last time I was there the gates were locked so I could only see them from a distance which was not a very good viewing point.

Maybe they are for the team, not the fans.

the same for this and all of college football. Because of loyalty and buy in you are treated the worst of any sport- uncomfortable seats, lousy concessions, pain in the tailgate parking, and short notice of when game time is due to tv, etc. The attitude by AD's is we have your money now we will treat you anyway we please because you are too invested to leave.

So quit going.
Were the seats not exactly the same 30 years ago? Were the concessions not exactly the same 30 years ago?
If they decided to put in real seats, all we would hear is bitching about people being moved. If they upgraded all the concessions, all we would hear is bitching about cost.
Just stop going. Save yourself from the horrible mistreatment.

You're probably right. In this World we live in today someone is probably offended and drafting a letter now.

I would rather see a real Tiger in a jungle like habitat. It could be made into Cemetery Hill and everyone could enjoy it. I know LSU already has one, but, they copied our stadium's moniker, let's copy the Tiger idea. Besides, SCAR has a real chicken.

Last time we stopped over to the grave yard I recall you could park and walk around the left side of the gate. Other times they have had security guard sitting there in a golf cart and they would probably say no go.

I know its a tradition and a top 25 road victory is harder then a home game but woudn't make more sense for Death Valley to have tombs stones of top 25 teams that came to the valley and died? That would be intimidation for teams who visit to have to walk by it and fear their own team getting marked.

Maybe move it to where it would be visible from the new Tiger Walk when it is finished. But that would mean losing more parking spots in lot 5 and the incessant whining that will certainly accompany such a move.

Leave it as is and continue to "enjoy". This "graveyard" is for the old timers who choose to visit and relive the past victories. Do not need a tourist attraction.
