Some Sports Speaking heads are saying SABAN

Sep 15, 2023, 9:34 AM

has the worst assembly of assistant coaches he’s had in ages and the football IQ & past experiences of this years staff is so far less than last 5 years of coaches..

with many being head coaches now and beating him as has happened 3 times.

Saying, the talent is there but maybe not getting developed or not having coaches with smart game time moxy.

This may be a rhetorical question, but can we perhaps draw parallels to Dabo's coaching staff?

:)

I'm not Dabo, but if I was I know which staff members I'd be looking at. I think GR is the real deal, he's untouchable. So is Mike Reed, Eason, and CJ. I'd have everyone else under the microscope though.

Not sure I'd have CJ in the "untouchable" category.***

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

...perhaps. I could be wrong.

Saban has experienced coordinators

But both have had.. uhh.. mixed results, to put it nicely. Steele had one good year at Clemson (2010) and a good run at Auburn, but has also fielded some terrible defenses. He was awful at Miami last year. Tommy Rees has always been underwhelming IMO.

I don't really know anything about his position coaches.

That Tommy Rees hire was pretty sideways for Saban, right? Rees wasn't connected to his tree and really wasn't in a place professionally that he needed to rehab his reputation, like Sark or O'Brien. That hire just felt off for Saban.
