So much talk about Fox Sports 1, so I gave it a look (long)

I just finished watching a recording of Fox College Football Kickoff. I'm not at all convinced this outlet will be any better than ESPN from an ACC and Clemson viewpoint. What irritated me:
They started with a long segment on Manziel and all of his trouble in order to predict what kind of year he would have. Who hasn't spent endless airtime on this topic????? Good grief.
Some radio mouth from Nashville named Clay Travis talked about how college football is THE sport in the South and the SEC is THE conference. He suggests even transplants move down and pick an SEC team to root for, almost. That may be true in TN and MS, but not everywhere in the South, dope. SC, GA, FL, NC, TX, etc., don't follow that rule at all.
Offering plenty of facts, the round table discussed how the SEC is THE conference, dominant over the past decade practically (number of Heisman's, national championships, etc.)
Some gas bag named Petros Papadakis who strikes me as one of those guys who is so convinced his opinion is always right that he talks louder and over everyone else to win his point, made a statement that was especially irritating. He basically said (I'm using my memory...!!), "Only FSU can bring the ACC back...", when talking about Winston the new QB. Really????
The coverage of the ACC was the most brief of all the FBS conferences. They seemed fair in PAC 12, B1G, etc., coverage.
The only moderate and well thought out voice so far to me is Eddie George. Maybe Mike Pereira will be eventually, too, but he seems to be a part of the group primarily to be the odd guy out with crazy ideas. There has to be one, right?
In typical Fox fashion it's nice to see some shapely blonds on set and able to talk the talk, though!
So, my first impression is NOT good. Unless this is just the JV group of commentators and analysts for college FB, or just a trial balloon as they try to figure out what audiences they will target, it seems like they are just like ESPN in their cooing and man-crushes on the SEC, and taking the position that the ACC is the conference with the most to prove. It will be interesting to see how things change this season when, as many predict, Clemson, FSU, and Miami at a minimum have good years. Clemson beating UGA and SCar has to change some viewpoints.....or maybe not.

Unfortunately, be it electronic media or publications, the SEC has been annointed the king of college football. The ACC has much work to do to get anything more than hardly a mention. The SEC has won every national championship for nearly a decade, until someone else wins and until the ACC beats the SEC more than just once every blue moon, nothing will change.

If ACC fans want the media to start covering them more, then the ACC teams need to prove they deserve the coverage by winning on a consistent basis. Period. It's just that simple.
That's reality. Doesn't make it right or even fair. It just is.

Are you trying to say that the SEC West is where the real power of the SEC lies? And that the SEC East isn't any good?
Here's a fun fact for you to chew on considering your thought process here. The SEC East had more draft picks last year than any other conference at 32. The SEC West tied with the ACC with 31. If the SEC East is so poor, why is the NFL so interested in the players?

no other conf. has that much of a difference between the top and bottom. add that to a weak ooc schedule, and the result is you have 5 top-10 teams in the ap poll outta the sec because they play a couple games a year, and have the bowl game in their backyard, that gives them basically a hall pass, to be talked about enough so that the hs kids listen.

The top seven teams being very good to great is an argument for the strength of the conference not against it.

End of 2012 season there were 5 SEC teams in the top 10 by both rankings. Even Vanderbilt made it into the top 25....
So far this season, there are 5 SEC teams in the preseason top 10.
While I think there is a lot of favoritism and some overrating of SEC teams, I don't think teams in the top 10 are completely overrated. They may be high by a few positions on average.
It may be that the SEC has 5 good teams regularly. Not 3.

The SEC put more people into the NFL last year than any other conference by a mile, has highly ranked recruiting classes throughout the conference (for whatever those opinions are worth), has won a number of recent Heisman's, etc.
It will be hard to overcome those kinds of stats. But all that matters is winning games to me. If the ACC puts 3 or 4 teams consistently in the top 25 at year's end and wins a championship here and there, that's a lot to look forward to and will squelch a lot of the "analysts".

the numbers. But all that matters is winning any given game in the end. If we beat UGA and SCar this year, we can prove those numbers when averaged for the SEC don't mean so much. The TV folks will still swoon for the SEC, though.

Go back and research when ESPN lost their NFL package (the Sunday Night game) to NBC. It was around that time they went all out to buy into the SEC and try to fill that void that blow to their NFL coverage took. They finally got back into the NFL through their ABC deal and the Monday Night package which they had to pay a mega fortune to get. IMHO this SEC stuff wouldn't be nearly like it is right now had that event not occurred. Not saying the field results would have mattered that much but the media hype machine really went through the roof right after that. They basically decided to make the SEC the college version of the NFL in terms of coverage. It is really hard to gauge just how much SEC teams have benefitted in their recruiting from this deal, but it had to help some for sure.

is this really you oliver stone? do you really expect any national media, be it tv, newspaper, or any print media to hype a conference that is 3-14 in bcs games (national measuring stick) more than one that has won 7 nc in a ROW? try to use some logic. other conferences need to WIN some nc and then complain.

Well I think ESPN having competition is good... so that is a positive.
I think anything, when it is first started, will be a little low on content and character because that is just the nature of the industry. Lets give Fox Sports 1 about 5 years to impress it before we give it a pass/fail.
Fox has the best NASCAR coverage of anyone and I personally prefer there NFL coverage over others as well so I think they have good people calling the shots and in time this will be a good product.

And I'm not suggesting anyone give up on Fox Sports 1. But it's not a great start, so beware. Perhaps ACC fans need to chime in more about their content. I'm not a social media hound, but I might start using it more just for that reason. Might.

what sells right now. These tv stations are in the business of getting viewers and making money and people want to see and hear about the SEC.
And the people around here trying to say that it's a 1, 2, 3 (whatever) team conference are retarded. They've had 5 different teams win BCS national championships, 3 have won multiple titles, UGA has won 2 BCS bowls, Arkansas and SC have both won 10+ games multiple times recently, and both have won some pretty prestigious bowls. They had 6 excellent teams last year, and all 6 are likely to be good again this year.
