So I'm looking over VT's schedule and results.....

Nov 28, 2016, 8:16 PM

I like to do this for opponents to try and identify "comparable" offenses and defenses to Clemson.

The best offenses I think they've faced are Tenn, Pitt, & ND. Correct me if I'm wrong there. Obviously I think Clemson is better on O than any of these teams. I threw out the UNC game since I believe that was played in the hurricane.

Tenn scored 45, but VT had fumblitis in that game which likely skews that number some.
Pitt scored 36 but lost.
ND scored 31 but also lost.

Looking over VT's schedule, I can't find anyone that has a D relatively comparable to Clemson, in my opinion. Again, let me know if I'm overlooking anybody. I thought about BC, and they play good D, but not really a good look since their O struggles so much. Is Tenn the best D they have faced this year?

If Clemson limits turnovers to 1 or less, I find it hard to believe we don't score in the mid 30's, if not in the 40's. I just don't see our D giving up 30+ to this team. Now it is possible (see Pitt game), but I just can't imagine our D letting that happen in the ACC-CG. Am I missing something?

I'm calling Clemson 45 - VT 24

I don't think VT scores 24

Well done. That's a pretty nice summary.

Tennessee's defense is terrible.

They're a joke. If we play like we've played the last two weeks and don't make inopportune turnovers, VT is in big, big trouble.

My thought on Tenn D is their starters are pretty solid, but

they just lack the depth to hold up through a real game. Similar to Ole Miss. That's where we have a big difference is we have played a lot on the 2-deep and can sub in most positions on D with no/little drop off.

Is there a better D they have played, excluding BC since their O cannot help them at all? Miami maybe? Again, I don't think they've seen a D like ours, but trying to make sure I'm not biased.

Good summary. I tend to do the same thing. I felt the same way about SC when we played them this past week. I saw that their defense was actually ranked decently and then looked at who they played. I quickly saw that we were the best team they were going to see all season on both sides of the ball and look at what happened. I feel the same way about VT. We will be the best team by far they have seen all year. And if Watson is going to be pinpoint accurate on his throws, then they are in for a long day. VT has talent and their QB can run and throw. Plus they have a good WR. They will make the game interesting early on, but I believe we are just too much. I like your score prediction. I believe the spread could be around 21.
