Should we be loyal to Dabo?

I love and respect the guy and I want HIM to turn this team around. He’s earned the right to chart the path back to greatness. Whatever it takes, Dabo has my support. But my loyalty is to Clemson; the school, the institution, and our sports teams. If Dabo’s Clemson career ends, (for those of you hoping it’s now, you’re ridiculous) my support will shift to the next man up. So when people criticize Dabo, I’m ok with that. After all, coaches come and go. But our Clemson Tigers will never leave us. And neither will my support for them. Here’s to hoping Dabo fixes our issues and restores us back to dominance. But in the end, I don’t care who the coach is. He just has to win at a high level…. with integrity.

I love having Dabo as our coach and I think he's done a lot to earn time to fix this. My frustration is he has seemed stubborn and he flat out lied about this team. There is no way he thought this was a championship caliber team.

He didn’t lie, imagine if you were judged with the same thing your calling a lie.
If you were proud of your wife, kids or family, that means you believe in them. Would you say my wife’s not a good mom or wife if she got sick or didn’t feel good or under performed. Would you say she’s looking fat if she ask or would you say you look good and encourage her?
If your kid played tennis or golf would you say they probably won’t win or would you say I think they are going to be great this year?
Real Tiger fans are family, the others are just getting the punch in they couldn’t for the last decade.

You seem to be willfully naive here. Clemson football is BIG business, it's not a "family". Dabo is the CEO of this business and right now he is failing. Does he deserve more time to fix it? Yes. But if he continues to put this business at risk by indulging his only personal preferences over the direction of Clemson football then he should just retire. People's livelihoods and the university's ability to attract money, professors, students, businesses, are all totally connected to the Clemson brand being associated with excellence - primarily through the exposure of our football team. Full stop.

Real fans want the problems fixed. Real fans support the Tigers with open eyes and open ears about the consistent poor play.
Real fans understand that Dabo placing personal loyalty above performance is hurting the team.
Real fans understand that refusing to use the portal in the age of transfers and NIL is outdated, outdated, and failing.
It's a "win now" works, and we aren't winning.
It's an adapt or die world, and Dabo is t adapting.
That said, I've been a big fan of Dabo since he took over. He's been the best HC we e ever had.
I certainly hope he fixes this. He needs to be less stubborn, lose the hubris, and get the Tigers back to consistent Top 10 form.

I can see where Dabo thought we had a championship caliber team. Without the turnovers, we are top 2 in the country. We have a top 10 defense and we are 2nd in the nation in red zone trips. However, we can’t seem to get out of our own way! He can’t predict the turnovers. I’ve never seen a team self destruct like this one. It’s very sad

Remember our great years, most games were not close. A turnover did not make us lose. Exception was 2016 when we started out winning close games & a switch flipped.

I would agree with this. Honestly really liked Tommy B and really like Dabo. But it is about wins.
Dabo has quite a bit of time based on what he has accomplished. If it is still spiraling after 3 years get back to me.

What he broke? Are you out of your friggin mind? Hes the one who fixed this program!!!! Or has your brain forgotten what a laughing stock we were before Dabo got here? Do you remember espn coining the word "clemsoning"? Dabo not getting 3 years to fix the problems????? He has earned that. Tell me one coach in our history who has been better???? 2 national championships, 5 years in the playoffs, 7 acc titles. Can you think of one? Yeah, didnt think so.

Played for 4 National Championships.
Won two National Championships.
(Lost all 3 CFP games we played in New Orleans Superdome, somehow).

I can see how that might have read "The only games game lost were in the Superdome" but that wasn't what I was trying to say...I was trying to say more like "we can't seem to win in the Superdome, I never want to go back to NOLA to play a game there."

We all know without Dabo we have the line 1981 championship. He made our dreams come true. We also don’t want to look back in a few years and see a horrible team with no recruiting. The rules have changed and the old formula does not work. At the same time our position coach selection has regressed. I want Dabo to succeed but he has to show he will change on both fronts or he might as well retire.

I hope that every Clemson fan put Clemson first on the loyalty train, and I'll be loyal to Dabo as long as he is doing everything within his power to make our FB team the very best that it can possibly be, and that means swallowing his pride if that is what it takes to turn around what we're seeing happening right now. If he does that I will cheer his name over anyone else, but it is all about the winning for our Clemson Tigers over any coach or any player!!!

I agree wholeheartedly. I’ve been a Tiger my whole life. Way before I knew Dabo even existed. I’ll be a Clemson Tiger fanatic whether he’s here or not.
My preference is our best coach in program history, Dabo, pull his head out of his bottom and clean house and use the heck out of the portal.

I believe in Dabo. I also be a important change is coming to the coaching staff. If not, Dabo's going to bend to the portal. But I still see that being his last stand.

.. and equally impressed with the level of ignorance in which you post.
As a 40+ year supporter of this school both financially, and in my 47 year career as a broadcaster, I actually allow some circumstances to change my mind on some issues. It's called open-mindedness. You should try it
Regardless of what I may have been thinking before, I've changed my tune. Sorry your small and limited mind can't handle that. But I think Dabo Sweeney deserves the chance to lead us back to greatness. If I'm wrong... like I said.. who cares! I'll hold every coach to the level I've held the others, including Dabo - win, or get the heck out. Next man up. It really is that simple. So, no! I am no more LOYAL to Dabo now than when I wrote that first post. But I HAVE decided that he's earned the right to try. So go back to your dungeon and dig up more anti-posts. If I'm ever in need of a refuse-to-change, negative minded copy reviewer, I'll give ya a call.

it's that you have little to no control over your emotions and you post things you end up either walking back or contradicting. And while I appreciate you posting your resume, it doesn't change anything. I know you'd like to think I had to "dig up" your "anti posts" but you made that post a week ago, it wasn't buried at all.
Keep doing you.

Y’all will do the same thing you did to DJ and are now trying to do to Cade. Then when it really falls apart and nobody wants to play here because you’re most toxic then the coots at least there will be nobody else to blame. There’s some who will blindly follow Dabo wherever but the rest are showing they only liked Dabo because we were winning. Y’all aren’t loyal to anyone who isn’t doing good enough for your ego.

I agree that the loyalty is to Clemson, not to any coach. So that brings up the question “who would you rather have instead of Dabo?” Most people are quick to criticize, whine and complain about things. And most of those people only do that and don’t bring solutions to the discussion.
Right now, I don’t know of anyone that would be available that I think we would be better off with.

Yes because of his past accomplishments and really, we have no other choice. Clemson can't afford to buyout Dabo's contract and then go pay another head coach to come in. Dabo is slow to react and suborn but I don't think he likes losing even less than making the changes needed to win.

Dabo is 100% loyal to this university and this football team, and as long as he is I will support him. To call him a liar because he believed in this team is outrageous. I can almost guarantee you that once he is not committed to the university and feels like he cannot right the ship, we will not have to fire him ....... he will resign. I'm not worried about Dabo or the football team doing things right, and am not concerned, but puzzled at those that would turn on him so quickly.

It's got nothing to do with being loyal to Dabo. It's about making logical and rational decisions. People who want this guy fired or that guy benched are not basing their opinions on sound logic.

We should first and foremost be loyal to Clemson and do what is best for Clemson. Second, Dabo has been critical to our success and has earned some time to make the tough calls to turn our program around. However, while he should be given reasonable time and resources to orchestrate this turnaround, he is not guaranteed a lifetime contract. Accountability is incumbent upon all involved at Clemson and Dabo himself would expect nothing less.
