He should get the majority of the carries while Shipley recovers. But maybe the offensive line has found a simple blocking scheme that works. I have not lost faith in Shipley yet. His receiving skills are better than Mafah.
They both need to learn to hang on to the ball.

I think so but his blocking isn’t as good + he’s had a few impact fumbles. I wish he would put both hands on the ball when you absolutely don’t want to fumble near the end of the game.

I like the 2 back sets, we’ve been pretty successful when we line up like that but we don’t do it enough!

Who is the starter when we open a game in the two back set?

What matters about PT is the situation at hand.

Objective being to keep the defense off balance re. Run vs Pass: Shipley is more versatile, and therefore gets the nod over Mafah.

Objective being for a raw power run between the tackles: Mafah is better because he, IMO, has better ‘bounce it outside if needed’ ability. Shipley is better for when our OL is struggling badly in run blocking; Shipley is masterful at finding and hitting the smallest cracks on the interior of the line.

Objective being for a designed outside run: Shipley is the guy.

The good news is that both are excellent backs, and they are both complementary because their strengths are a bit different. Fundamentally, both are hard nosed runners who have the vision and quickness to find the best place to hit if the ‘designed’ hole doesn’t happen.

Co-starter is the true way to designate the depth at RB when both are healthy.
