She’s 100% Republican, but the nutcase fringe of the party canceled her because she has more balls than any of the men in the party.

She lost the second she voted to impeach Trump...

Which is why her vote was an impressive act of patriotism! She put her country over herself and her party. Wish we had a lot more like her in DC.

You're kidding, right? She has an obligation to represent the people of her district, in her case, state, and she obviously didn't do that. It's not about her feelings! That's why she lost!

I don't necessarily agree. Leaders LEAD and not simply stick their finger up in the air to see which direction the wind is blowing.

about the ever changing winds of popular opinion.
There is a reason we're a representative republic and that's a lot different than a direct democracy.

Cheney lost, “she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion.” Yet when he lost, he thought the opposite. Wish he would have listened to his own advice.
Of course, he doesn’t think he actually lost, so maybe that’s why.

Liz definitely picked the wrong state to be virulently anti-Trump.
https://www.cnn.com/election/2020/results/state/wyoming/president
Of course...wah? There were only something like 267,000 votes cast...in the entire state. Does anyone actually live in Wyoming?
What this data suggests is, Liz definitely needs to move. She's pretty much a slam-dunk in anywhere remotely purple...since she just demonstrated she can still win 30% of the GOP vote even in the reddest, most thinly-populated state in America. Obviously she won't be doing it as a Republican but if I were Andrew Yang I'd be calling her, like, today. Sounds like the Forward Party poster girl, to me, especially since Liz can get positive interviews from both CNN and most Rupert Murdoch outlets and is that increasingly rare duck with cross-party appeal.
I still think she's got a real chance of being president one day. There's a whole lot of homeless RINOS at the moment.

Is it lost on the Trumpies here that...
Aug 17, 2022, 7:45 AM
|

That after Cheney lost her landslide like Trump got his ### kicked, Cheney accepted defeat and didn't claim fraud or try to fight the results in court or push blatantly false conspiracy theories because she's not a sore loser crybaby and neither are her followers?
Have they picked up on that yet?

She's basically a politician without a party now. She sounds like she "thinks" she's going to run for President. More likely she'll get a cable news gig somewhere to make some cheese and complain about Trump.

The problem is, there's an absolute %^$#-ton of politicians without a party now...and actually, voters without a party, people who are certainly no socialists and believe in free markets and capitalism but also in democracy and the rule of law.
That's problematic for the GOP right now.
The GOP is screaming - without irony - "defund the FBI" because one of the most arch-Republican FBI directors in its history - Christopher Wray is a Federalist, for cryin' out loud - dared tried to hold an ex-president to the same standard of law as anyone else. And they're actually trying to claim "political persecution."
You drum enough people out of a party, they form their own.

One good thing has come from this, moderates on both sides of the aisle have found common ground. We certainly are not witnessing the same level of petty bickering on this board as when Obama was in office, or in Bush's last term. As Tiggity mentioned, the pettiness seems confined to a handful of zealots.

That's an interesting point and even a fair point...
Aug 17, 2022, 2:00 PM
|
|
comes down to a philosophical discussion about representation.
Do we want our representatives to strictly follow popular opinion on every issue or are we electing people that we trust to use their judgement on issues...especially ones that don't lend themselves to direct popular opinion?
I tend to be in the latter camp. How can an average voter be expected to have an informed opinion on many things...for example, arms deals, foreign relations, even specific budget items. I'm not sure the 2nd impeachment falls into that our not, frankly.
When I look out at all of the blatant disinformation available and consumed on a daily basis, I tend to think our we should elect our representatives to use their judgement and not to strictly follow current popular opinion.
She got voted out as a result of the stance she took against Trump's lies and behavior after the election. I support her actions, and if I lived in MT I would have voted for her. Clearly a great many disagree...which is fine and that's how our country is supposed to work. I think those great many are horribly misguided, but, opinions are like aholes...everyone has one.
