Ryan leaf cleaned up his act years ago and has been an incredible inspiration to a ton of people. He has done an amazing amount of outreach in terms of alcohol and other things especially for young up-and-coming athletes. He created a nonprofit where he goes around and speaks to young athletes.
He has been one of Dan Patrick’s favorite guests over the years. He’s done some amazing interviews with Dan.
Is there something that I missing?

I think the previous poster is thninking of Leaf 1.0
I agree with you that Leaf 2.0 is a great story of redemption. Has been a long two step forward one step back process but appears to be a great example.

Terry Bradshaw...My Father in the 80s saw him in an airport and discretely nudged his colleague and said quietly hey there is Terry Bradshaw. Bradshaw saw him do it and yelled from like 10 ft away while pointing aggressively at my dad "hey its you its you, everyone hey it's that business guy" and turned his back.

Just my humble opinion

but guys like Barry Bonds and Tom Brady were Hall of Fame caliber players, but were never much of a fan's player unless you were a fan of their team. They just didn't seem to be a people person; fans are what sports are all about, it's entertainment. And if a player is not a fan of fans, isn't that like the dog biting the hand that feeds them?
The really likable great athletes were players like Hank Aaron, Dale Murphy, Kurt Warner, David Robinson, et al.

I can't believe you put Tom Brady in this category. He is a guy that kept his nose clean, has been the GOAT at QB, never tried to win popularity contests, no Social Media drama, etc, etc.
This is the last guy I expected someone to mention. Its obvious you just don't like the teams he had been on. I'm not necessarily a fan, bit I admire his abilities, work ethics, his age and never had the primadonna attitude.
Unfortunately, people outside Clemson could answer DW4 but I hope he comes back and redeems himself. While I don't think a rich 25yr old looking for companionship in a weird way doesn't make him a horrible person, but just a little weird in his methods. I think he ran across a couple easy targets in the beginning and then got caught by professionals. He truly should have just hit the chicken ranches.

Maybe I'm just a Brady hater

He's stayed out of any kind of criminal trouble and done a lot of good charity work. But I read an article early on where he said something like he didn't want to be a hero or looked up to. If he's the GOAT, that goes with the territory. Why not be an inspiration to kids and fans?
He's always seemed to be a little shady and catered to. If you saw the Tuck Rule playoff game with the Raiders in '02 that started the Patriot dynasty and his GOAT run, the controversial play was originally called a fumble and looked like an obvious fumble but was overturned. It was hard to see indisputable evidence to overturn the call. He admitted recently as a troll comment in an interview that it was probably a fumble. Then there was the situation with Bridget Moynahan where he broke up with her after he got her pregnant. Then there was Spygate and Inflategate.
He's been a legendary QB but he just seems to ooze arrogance like when he showed up at a Super Bowl in a long trench coat and sunglasses. Maybe he's just polarizing, you either love him or hate him and if you hate him, the people who love him are just gonna say you hate him because he's a winner.

What a bunch of shallow petty ridiculous reasons to not like someone.
Anyone that thinks Tom Brady is a bad guy is a perfect example of the current society we’re living in where if you don’t kiss peoples ### you’re not a good person. Reminds me of critical race theory. If you’re not fighting racism then you’re a racist. People today are ridiculous!

Jim Kelly. Saw him in the Charlotte airport in his prime. He was in a gift shop buying snacks. The old lady working the register asked if she could have his autograph for her grandson. He replied "I didn't ask for yours, did I?"
He walked out to a chorus of Boos.

Maybe he had a bad a day or was going through a tough time. Maybe that was before his epiphany; life has a way of humbling us. He had a young son that died from a rare disease. Jim and his wife started a non-profit in their son's name.
He also has an annual football camp for kids and an annual golf golf tournament for a kid's charity. He claims to be a devout Christian. And he also went through cancer in his jaw.

I'd put LeBron 1 or 2 steps above a dud.
If he had tried harder to make Cleveland great, I'd feel different. It was when he tried to make himself "more than an athlete " that he also became "bigger than the game" that had given him the grand stage to demonstrate his skills.
I'd also be much more appreciative of his "more than an athlete " status if he actually attempted to know what he was talking about before posting to social media. Being a force for social good means you can't be pushed around by the mob. Leaders lead.
As someone who has never had to delete a tweet, I should know; I too am "more than a poster." I can give him unsolicited advice free of charge any time he needs a new voice to lead him.

If he really cared about Cleveland and Ohio in general
Jun 29, 2022, 9:55 PM
|

He would get his good buddy Warren Buffett to be his advisor and buy an old out of business Factory somewhere in the Cleveland area and develop his own tennis shoes here in America and hire people from Ohio and provide good paying jobs. Rather than taken millions and millions from Nike and other companies in China, he could create a big business that would provide great jobs and benefits and he could have a cheap shoe a moderately priced true and an expensive shoe. And he would make more money than God.
It would also put pressure on other athletes and celebrities to stop taking money from Chinese companies and do the same thing. Within 10 years most of the sports industry that comes out of China would be produced here in America and providing great jobs and helping the communities they say they care about.

Michael Jordan- still convinced the NBA covered up his gambling issues as a “retirement” to play baseball. Add in all the adultery allegations & he has to be on an all-sleazy team. He also completely sux as an NBA owner .
