Question for some of our new BigXII visitors?

May 25, 2012, 11:14 PM

First of all, welcome to Tigernet. Good to have some new company around here. I've seen some of you guys posting about nicknames of BigXII schools, but I was wondering about some of your teams traditions. I know about the Sooner Schooner, Bevo and Big Bertha, formerly Colorado with Ralphie and A&M with their yell practice and everything. What other goodies you guys got? Y'all seem to be as passionate as we are and I think that shows in the types of traditions each school has. Obviously we have Howard's Rock and the Hill, FSU has Chief Osceola and the chop.

The TExas schools all have hand signals. THis is a by-product of the old SWC traditions. Hook em Horns, the Bear Claw, pistols firing for Tech, not sure what TCU has.

Oklahoma State has those paddles they hit on the side of the stadium which is a really cool tradition because that place gets crazy.

KU, KSU, ISU and formerly Nebraska all do a "Wave the Wheat" when the team scores. It's supposed to simulate the look of the crops on the plains when the wind is blowing through them. This is MOSTLY done by KU but all the far north teams do it.

ISU plays Sweet Caroline (much to WVU's chagrin as apparently so does Pitt) at the end of games.

KU has the Rock Chalk Chant of course. Im sure you guys have heard about that.

We played it at some basketball games this year.

ISU does not really do the wave the wheat thing. They have gotten into blowing tornado sirens after big plays.

ISU plays Sweet Caroline between the third and fourth quarters, and then after the game only if they win.

Recently, ISU has gotten into using tornado sirens before and during the game.

Why sweet Caroline? I know several schools play it but why?
