Question about the drone incident for the aviation folks

1

Mar 16, 2023, 8:55 AM

here.

What impact would dumping fuel on the drone have on it? I don't get why the Russkie's were doing that. Is there something I'm missing? Were they trying to impair the sensors with it, or compromise the aerodynamic integrity or something?

Wondered the same thing. Not an "aviation folk" but my thought it was an attempt to "choke" out the engine by contaminating the air intake.

From what I read, the russian jet and the drone collided.

The individuals flying the drone, steered the drone down and wiped all data before it went in the ocean. I honestly believe if it was top secret, the US would have done everything possible to retrieve it.

Guessing here

but I thought it was just a gesture. Like poop in you face. The clipping of the propellor is a different issue- poor driving probably. Maybe they had a bottle of Stoli up there?

I would assume that a sudden change in density

of the air would have broken the blades of the drone spinning at high rpm's. I'm sure the propellers are strong, but not that strong to take an impact like that.

And they did it because they are a$$holes to send a message to pi$$ off. We were probably monitoring ship movements in the Black Sea and the Russians are probably mobilizing something they didn't want to be seen.

Are you talking about the fella who flew his drone in Littlejohn earlier this year?***

I heard a naval aviator saying the fuel dump is propaganda. He says when
you do a fuel dump in a jet fighter the fuel vaporizes almost instantaneously.
There almost zero chance that happened.

My first thought when I saw the video was maybe they were trying to put the drone in the fighter plane’s “jet wash” and causing it lose control a la when Maverick crashed in the first Top Gun movie. Or maybe that just happens in the movies? If you haven’t figured out by now, I’m definitely not an aviation type but that did pop into my mind.
