go watch the video...he's lean now. Keep in mind his height...Tajh at 220 was bigger looking than Cole.

He doesn't look a bit fat to me. Glad to see him at this NFL size. He's now a running threat. How can you criticize that kind of work ethic? You didn't see the muscle on this guy? And Leggett at 251. You consider that fat? He will be a force of nature at tight end.

Cole is 6'4", and if he has been working out in the weight room, I hope that he can stay where he is. At 6'4" with a body that's muscle weight. He can operate very well at 230/235 as a dual threat QB.

Did you see his picture? Cole is all muscle. I am sure that he will lose some weight, but not over 10 lbs.

I think he will be fine as interior LB. We need big guys stuffing the holes and containing hash to hash and let the if DE's get up the field.

All ready 242. Anthony is 244 after being the the weight program for 4 years. I think Register or was it Rogers, is going to be in the 260+ range no problem.

That is not huge for a division 1 level linebacker. We need big linebackers that can run. But, I guess some folks are never satisfied. We are now a much stronger, physical football team. Are you a Carolina fan?

No he wasn't...Register was recruited as a MLB and trained with the LB's all spring and summer. Yeargin was recruited as a DE.

I wasn't bashing on Rogers or Register (whichever one it was). I'm just going to guess that they are going to outgrow LB and play some DE (which was what a lot of people said when we were recruiting them).

We've got a bunch of big, talented DE's. We've had LB's in the past who weighed 260 and could run. I can't understand why anyone would think 240 to 250 is too heavy to play linebacker.

Jul 31, 2014, 8:03 PM
|
|
I said at 18 he is 242 and he hasn't even really been in the weight room and nutrition program at Clemson. He is 8 pounds away from 250. I don't think 240 is too much, but I'm thinking an 18 year old that hasn't been in a college weight program is probably going to be bigger than 250 sooner rather than later.

Levon Kirkland played LB a Clemson at 265, and could flat out run. Let's don't mention his distinguished NFL career. Thanks for bringing him up.

Until we morph to an Alabama, pro-style 3-4 defensive unit, a 265 lb linebacker really doesn't help us. We ask both of our LBs to do a lot as far as coverage is concerned.

lavonne Kirkland was a multi year All Pro LB at 270. I don't know Korie Rogers' skill set, but I will wait to pass judgement. I expect many think Vic Beasley is not heavy enough to be a good DE, but guess what? See what I mean? It's all relative and has much to do with the guy and the "want to".

Don't we have a guy (former baseball player) who goes about 230 and has speed? Can't think of his name, but heard that he really looked good in the spring game.

Kurt Fleming...expect to see him in some form this year, if you missed it, check out his run from the spring game. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Choice play, checking in at 211. Gallman at 209 is encouraging. I'm impressed with our RB corps and am expecting bigger things from them this year. Go Tigers!

He was pretty much untouched on that run. Made a little easier by a mistake by Kearse if I recall. I'm glad he has the speed to bust a longer run but any of our backs could have done and most would have taken it to the house.

I still am astounded at Leggett at 251. He has obviously grown up, developed a work ethic, and, I think will be one of the top tight ends in the country. And Seckinger is what now 240 plus. Love it.

Feel really good about this.
Our LBs and Safeties just stick out as big brawlers.
Wasn't it only 3 years ago when we didn't have a single LB who tipped the scales at above ~220 lbs?

I share your feelings. It's good to have some bruisers out there now. I don't know this for sure, but heard that we brought in a S&C guy from Alabama who is now a top assistant----and will kick butt and names. Just what I've heard. Also, who is the big back?

Seeing that he has dropped his weight to "333," does anybody have any info that points to Region making a decision to contribute to the program this fall? After all, the hour glass is running out of sand.

As I understand it, he was the #8 offensive lineman coming out of HS. He seems to have all the physical tools, but the questions seem to lie in the area of commitment and work ethic. I don't think he's even on the depth chart on the OL. Wasted talent is always a shame. I hope he proves me wrong.

I thought he had a real strong resume coming out of high school. since then I also thought he lacked commitment. Thanks for clarifying. Like you, I hope he makes us both eat crow. We can sure use him.

Interestingly enough based on their size, I feel like Jarrett makes a better anchor and Reader is a better penetrator. Stats won't show that because of the discrepancy in snap counts, but I feel as though that's been my observation.
Not that it matters in our scheme -- the 2i tech and 3 tech are basically interchangeable and do different stuffs based on play call.
We're in good hands.

Thanks. to me that's pretty big for a RB. Our RB's may be one of the "sleepers" on this team.

Guys, is it just me or my imagination. Across the board it seems like guys have added between 5 and 10 % to their total weight! and it is not fat. The muscle density, tightness, and hardness seem to have improved. Either guys got more serious, Batson changed some things up, or the overall work ethic has changed. Maybe Dabo talked to Batson and said, "for us to get where we want to be as a team we need to step it up, get bigger, faster, stronger, and play up to these bigger teams. A few years ago (maybe 2011) as much as I didn't want to admit it I thought SC's S&C had far surpassed us. Their guys just looked harder and more defined. I think the lightbulb has turned on and the whole mentality has changed. I expect big things out of this team. I think the defense will keep us in close games. I think the secondary is gonna lay the wood, I think the linebackers are going to absolutely destroy some guys, I think the DL is going to wreak havoc, and I think at the end of the year Clemson is going to go get the respect no one is wanting to give.
Example of what I'm talking about. Look at Jadar Johnson at around 205 as a DB. Look at Jay Jay McCollough. Is he still considered a threat as a RB or strictly a TE? Another example, look at how think Grady was . Imagine trying to get by him. Our RB's!? Big! Not Alabama big overall, but some big guys. CJ Fuller, Choice, Dye, Gallman, Davidson, Howard, Brooks, and Fleming. Stacked.
Did anyone else just sit there watching that video in excitement and anticipation like me?

Man, CJ "Cannonball" Davidson really punched it up big

time. He added over ten pounds to top 200 for that small, low, powerful frame. And Joe Gore losing 20 to get quicker at tackle. Crowder shed a chunk too, from 345 to 322.
These kids have definitely bought in.

This team seems like they've really bought in to the s&c/ nutrition programs this summer. The freshmen db's especially look like they've bulked up and are ready to jam some jawja receivers. Offensive line looks great to me. I like Cole with some stoutness to him. We need him to stay healthy. The rbs are mostly tipping 200, so hopefully Stoudt won't have to run much. MLBs look strong. OLBs look lean. DL looks like a group of monsters. They all look the part of a major program. Good job Tigers. Y'all are going to be ready to bust some heads.

Avg weight of this group of players is...

243.14 lbs. This was only 64 so not sure how much the rest of the roster would bring the average down. This seems like one of the biggest teams we have ever had. I found this article that talks about the heaviest football teams being some of the best. Interesting
