Post Spurrier

Nov 4, 2014, 2:57 PM

I don't think he bolts after this year, but whenever he does leave, who does South Carolina go after? Considering what they paid him, just about anybody seems on the table. Smart? I know they like to think they're Bama.

Pay doesn't matter, Slurrier has proven U can't

win the SEC at that cesspool. The thought that they could hire anyone they want is quite funny.

I said go after not get.

in a Power 5 conference who would leave a well-established program for $CU. Not one.

To be fair, Spurrier did. Holtz did, too.

They both had great careers, pre-SCAR.

I believe both were unemployed before coming to $CU***

my guess would be Jim Tressel, Phil Fulmer, Bobby Petrino, or Lane Kiffin.

Fulmer was a nark for the NCAA....

Nov 4, 2014, 4:22 PM

yet he had detailed knowledge of the same types of out-of-control boosters at UT that landed Bama on crippling NCAA probation. He turned in Bama but didn't do anything to keep his own house in order.

Detective Fulmer would be awful in this rivalry, and he would steal all the good Oline recruits and devour Bojangles.

Re: Post Spurrier

Nov 4, 2014, 3:03 PM

They'll go one of two routes. The old, washed-up has been that's looking for retribution and wanting to bank some retirement checks (Holtshzsh)... or

The younger guy, with some baggage and a questionable past, but with the chance to make them relevant in the SEC. (Kiffin or Petrino).

Honest to God, my money is on Petrino. His girlfriend is already there and they have no problem hiring people lacking in the moral department. And it'd get him back in the SEC. It's too good for both parties, not to at least try out.

Re: Post Spurrier

Nov 4, 2014, 3:05 PM

I actually would put Kiffin on a list of potentials, especially if it's 2 or 3 years down the road and he can ride Saban's coat tails.

Re: Post Spurrier

Nov 4, 2014, 3:07 PM

Fine with me - let them go ahead and do it. H3ll, I might just cut my first check to USuCk, if that'll get him on the sidelines and running that dumpster fire.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Kiffin? After the gas pumper comments?

Nov 4, 2014, 3:13 PM [ in reply to Re: Post Spurrier ]

That would be freaking hilarious.

Didn't Slurrier always talk crap about them while @ Florida***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Kiffin is from Nebraska; he would definitely go to SCU.

Nov 4, 2014, 3:18 PM [ in reply to Re: Post Spurrier ]

But it'll take at least almost what they're paying Spurrier to get him away from Sabo.

Re: Post Spurrier

Nov 4, 2014, 3:25 PM

I always thought Gary Patterson (who has a long friendship with former AD Hyman) was a lock to replace Spurrier. Not sure now. I think Mike Leach would be a good fit because of his mystique and weirdness. He kind of reminded me of Joe Mo. But given SC history, they will probably go after Barry Switzer or Jimmy Johnson.

Re: Post Spurrier

Nov 4, 2014, 3:53 PM

100% it will be Mark Dantonio. He's a Carolina grad and I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to coach where he played.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why, he's already in position to get tp the playoff

Nov 4, 2014, 3:57 PM

where he's at. Slurrier has proven, not even a HOF coach that recruits off of his name can't win the SEC there. Make no mistake about it, USuC WILL NEVER recruit at the level Slurrier has recruited once he is gone.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Why, he's already in position to get tp the playoff

Nov 4, 2014, 4:18 PM

You really think that Ray Tanner isn't going to go out and get the best coach possible for them. I can't stand his a$$ but one thing Tanner has proven is that he's a great athletic mind on and off the field. Guarantee they offer to Dantonio so why wouldn't he get sucked in by all that money and the chance to coach at his alma mater?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Why, he's already in position to get tp the playoff

Nov 4, 2014, 5:08 PM

The only thing Tanner has proven is that he's a great (college) baseball coach. That's literally it. As far as his AD duties, it's pretty easy to see that neither the baseball team, nor the football team (their biggest athletic programs) have taken steps forward since he's taken over as AD. Not to say he's the cause, but then again, we don't know they aren't either.

I think we are watching the "return to normal", as far as USuCk athletics go.

And I love every minute of it.

Re: Post Spurrier

Nov 4, 2014, 4:02 PM [ in reply to Re: Post Spurrier ]

No way will it be Dantonio. He recently signed a contract that will make him "a Spartan for life". Good luck.

Re: Post Spurrier

Nov 4, 2014, 4:14 PM

There's something to be said about getting to coach for the school where you played. I personally would hate to see him there because he's a #### good coach but unfortunately I think it will be him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Post Spurrier

Nov 4, 2014, 4:00 PM

I don't really care because whover it is will never be able to win the SEC at that dump. Slurrier should have listened to Lee Corso and gone somewhere else that was relevant!
