game with Notre Dame. This is the first time I have ever seen a completely non dirt field. Is this a common thing for bad spring weather schools?

Don’t know,but I don’t care for it.

I think weather is the big thing in the north

but I've seen it in the south too.

I think Wake Forest may have an all artificial turf field.

I don't like it. Sliding on that stuff has to be a muscle tear waiting to happen. I noticed that the players on both sides are wearing cleats. I thought they might not.

I think Louisville is also all turf… I know app state is as well… a lot of the midwestern and northern states are going to it… I’m assuming goes a lot easier on maintain during the colder months than down south where even winters aren’t really winter.

Not always. Pretty sure Vandy changed to artificial turf too.

I think in the north it’s almost a necessity, but I also think schools with better weather are simply doing it to minimize costs. What I don’t get is places like Coastal Carolina where it’s some kind of hybrid of turf and grass.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Coastal has turf in foul territory, but the field is grass and dirt.***

Colleges use the weather as an excuse. There are plenty of MLB teams located in cold-weather cities. A huge majority of them play on grass fields.

But they play preseason in Florida and Arizona until early April.

Off the top of my head, ND, Duke, Wake, Louisville, VT, and BC are the ACC schools with all turf that I can think of...I may be missing one or two. Not a fan personally but I understand why the northern schools do it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Those do not actually have carpet in the batter's box and at the bases, do they?

Notre Dame is the first field I recall seeing with that.
