Odds on DaBO winning his 2nd Natty b/4 retiring @ 55 for AD Job?

Jun 11, 2017, 11:37 AM

and sliding down His personal slide to take AD job so to keep wins & trophies coming, which is 8-12 more years of coaching!

I say odds are pretty dang good for ONE more Natty & maybe a 3rd too by age 55-59.

What forecasts You TiGER breath?

I'd say 20% chance we have one in the next 3 years.

Jun 11, 2017, 11:40 AM

It takes a healthy team and some lucky breaks to get there, but we'll have the talent to do it.

Soywalker, I think your 20% is spot on, if not a bit generous.

Jun 11, 2017, 2:40 PM

Except for Alabama, very few teams winning multiple titles in the same four year period. Florida did it in the 2000's, Nebraska in the 90's. Talent is there but we need the breaks. If Dabo has truly built the equivalent of an Alabama type machine, ill bump it up to 29.4%

If you think we only have a 20% chance in the next 3 yrs. you need a td.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So what would you say? Again, we'll have the talent, but schedule

Jun 11, 2017, 4:27 PM

Can factor in, other teams playing well, injuries, attrition, etc.. We could have an awesome team and still not win it (see 2015). We could be like Bama last year and play phenomenonally well but lose to a transcendental player.
We could have a bad call on a punt return and lose a game on a b s turnover.
You have to consider other teams and their rise too (see USC, Mich, Penn St).
Then you still have a system in place where a group of people decide if you're worthy.. what if we won the ACC but were left out of the playoff for another team (Penn St 16).
Crazy things happen in football.
As good as were last year, we were 2 Marcus Edmonds plays away from 2 losses (Lville, NC St.. yes, I recognize its hard to say how thibgs would have played out with a loss to either of those teams).
I think 20% is fair..
But please, enlighten me where I'm wrong with your educated opinion.. seriously.

If he can lock up a few more surrounding pieces, which I think he will, then the XT/Lawrence class has a great chance of delivering his second...

If Bama and Saban can do it, Clemson and Dabo can do it. We played in the last 2 National Championship games.. Yes, in a big part by Watson's play. However, I would also say that WRU, the best Defense ( most likely ) in the country, loaded at RB and the best QB coming to CU to come around in 10 years as the press says, then it could be done. Not to mention all the young WR talent, other 5 * QB talent and Defensive talent we are bringing in. Not trying to get too far ahead, but hey, let's take it while it's in front of us. The talent and coaching will be in place. sure, you'll have to take into account injuries, but aren't we too deep like someone once said? Just my take.

I was thinking the same thing, except that I think he is capable of delivering maybe 5 titles and retire at 60.

With the kind of vision he has, I think Dabo would be a perfect fit to fix the other areas in our athletic program into championship shape.

I totally agree and like the way you think. I really believe and trust Dabo that the best is yet to come. I would be a little disappointed if we didn't become the new bama and contend for titles every year... may not win but be there. 5 titles not unreasonable.

Clemson has so much to offer for the right person. So that being said, and I've said it before, is we should be contending and winning championships in every sport. No not as consistent as football but should be able to compete on national stage in most sports.

Don't buy the argument that we're a football school. Again that being said it takes fan support and a real commitment on the AD and school....

One poster said we don't have the budget. Championships bring the budget.

NO NO NO! Never Bama nothing! Just the Clemson Tigers! Just the Tigers with a great winning streak. I'm hoping for Bama to become a rivalry because we sure haven't had much competition with that other red-ish team that are our so called "RIVALS" 56-7. Never gets old ?? GO TIGERS!

Jun 11, 2017, 1:01 PM [ in reply to Re: Odds on DaBO winning his 2nd Natty b/4 retiring @ 55 for AD Job? ]

When I was a student, I always thought that Clemson University was better than what we were perceived by some. I believed Clemson U had a lot to offer student willing to work hard. Now we have the president and the leadership that can point us in that direction.

As a sports fan, I never bought into the idea that Clemson should only be a "football school" because I always thought we could be great at other things too.

Make fun about the chickens "wimmens" national titles, but I would like to see Clemson women's basketball win a national title.

Certainly I would like to see Clemson rowing win a national title even though I am not a fan of rowing, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Certainly I would love to see our soon-to-be softball program win a national title. I can tell you that many of the crazy alabama football fans are now crazy alabama softball fans too.

The point is that Clemson fans should not be satisfied with just one area in our school or athletic program.

And also let's not get complacent too. The fans of louisville basketball are now fans of louisville baseball and louisville football and louisville softball. Their athletic program is more well-rounded that ours is. I would even say that the chickens' are taking the same approach to have a well-rounded program as they've won more national titles in recent years than they've won the first 100 years of existence.

Make a joke if you want.

It pains me to be watching other programs playing right now, and we're already on vacation. That means our baseball program did not go very far this season...again.

No jokes here. If it wasn't Sunday. You'd probably be taking hits. But what I read you my friend are right on target! I believe Monte can get us there if we keep him. Penley hand off golf to Byrd.

Hopefully we'll build a world class softball facility. It's hot right now and it's fun to watch.

Guys the question was about Dabo and the football program. Yes we more than a football school but we started to rebuild football facilities and stuff first and they are reaping the rewards. Only past 2-3 years has Clemson really put the money into upgrading the bball and baseball facilities. Clemson baseball will be the next sport besides football to win a national title I just got that feeling monte is building something special like Dabo has done. Men's soccer went to natty 2 seasons ago and made it to elite 8 this year. If you look at the Captal One Cup standings that take all men's sports into account we are top 5 in men's sports and finished top 5 last year as well. So over past 2 years and this will continue to grow we have had top 5 overall all men's sports top 5 program nationally. We are not just a football school like some like to think. We just started a little later with upgrades for bball and baseball.

Health of key players , cohesion and work ethic , timing and schedule are all paramount . Coaching stability is there ....and just plain old X's and O's execution at the right time and the right place .

I think Dabo has it in him , and I bet we get 1 to 2 more before he hands off his whistle to his successor . Really think Dabo will coach at Clemson into his early 60s.

doesn't seem to fit his personality. I don't see him retiring at 55 either.

I agree that I think he will coach beyond his 55 years, but I don't agree that he doesn't have the personality.

What personality does he need to do this job?

Is this why many people still doubt his Xs and Os ability because he seems very involved in the management of the entire football program.

I def think Dabo can and will win clemson atleast one more National Title before he retires or takes over bama only 2 reasons I could think of him leaving clemson. I just got a feeling Dabo has 2 more titles in his future with clemson. Little optimistic but I'm very confident in him winning atleast 1 more title with Clemson! Dabo you the freaking man Go Tigers!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think Dabo will win 5 or more national championships here

Jun 11, 2017, 4:59 PM

Dabo has put the wisdom and drive in place to win multiple championships. I really believe Dabo is a once in a lifetime type coach. I believe he's a better coach than Saban because of his faith, drive and desire to help others. Dabo is a mentor that brings great men behind him and I believe the best is yet to come.

Dabo will be a coach that could pull off 3 championships in a row. I don't look at Dabo like other coaches because he isn't like any coach I have ever seen. I know we all will be happy if he wins 5 plus here at Clemson but I believe we all will be surprised by how good a coach he is going to be.

If you opinion is he may win one more I don't see anything wrong with that an I'll take it but I believe it will be more.

Why someone would TD Soywalker on this subject is ridiculous, we are talking about Championships com'on.

Re: Odds on DaBO winning his 2nd Natty b/4 retiring @ 55 for AD Job?

Jun 11, 2017, 10:08 PM

Winning a national championship is like a jigsaw puzzle. All of the pieces have to fit together and it requires important elements outside of our control which must fall in place. It's what the other teams do as well as what we do. Just imagine what would have happened if the NC State kicker had made that field goal in the closing seconds. We can look back and see a lot of "what ifs", and it's not limited to just our program.

As long as we remain consistent in recruiting and developing that talent, we will be in the hunt for the championship every year. Facility upgrades are a boost for our program for attracting top talent but it requires a coach like Dabo and his assistants to seal the deal. Character is just as important, or, perhaps, even more so, than athletic ability, because lack of character can be a cancer that destroys the heart of an otherwise excellent program. We appear to have in place the facilities, coaching staff, administrative support and fan support to maintain our success at a level that should lead to one or more nation championships. Dabo's positive embracing his "The best is yet to come" theme is not just a wish, it's a goal and a statement of dedication.
