Observations from NC State Game

After watching the NC State again I have a few observations. Take them for what they are worth.
1) The defense played much better than I thought. They gave up a legitimate 10 points which should be enough to win any game. I really think they are as good as last year.
2) If we punch it in when we had it inside the 5 yard line and Deshaun doesn't throw the pick 6, it is 31-3 going into the 4th quarter. Game over.
3) This year, Deshaun is choosing to hand off the ball much more than choosing to run it. Could be teams are specifically defending against him this year or he is trying to stay healthy. Either reason, one of our most potent weapons we had last year, his legs, are not a factor so far this year.
5) Losing Gallman really hurt us. Right now we don't have a legitimate backup to him.
4) Our O-line was either over matched or disinterested. Hard to believe it is the former.
5) NC State has a very good defense. This weekend should be fun to watch.
6) We'll have no problem holding FSU to 24 points or less. I don't think with their defense they can hold us to less than 30. We win.
We need to solve 2 things to be a legitimate contender this year.
1) The turnovers (Duh) 2) We need to regain a legitimate triple threat on offense (Run, Pass, Quarterback run). Right now we are very one dimensional (pass). 3) Fix Deshaun's accuracy on the long ball. Last year he was deadly. This year he is average.

Teams are selling out to stop the run...and they are taking away his read-option. So yes I think he hasn't been able to run as much this year. but despite all that he is still hurting teams with his elusiveness.
#4 and #5 yes NCSU Dline is very good. the best dline they have had in along time. We were even recruiting Street and Roseboro. I think we were at times very much overmatched. I feel like Hyatt had a decent game but he is still getting no help from Hearn. Fruh had a pretty good game but nothing to write home about other than it was a much better game compared to how he played at BC.

My Concern is South Carolina

If we were capable of playing poor enough to lose to NC State then we are capable of losing to USuCk. This worries me as we have had a knack for playing poorly against them. I think if we play a bad game we win but if we play really bad they could upset us especially since its the only thing they have to play for while we will already be thinking about the ACC Championship and 1st round of CFP.

NC State is FAR better than USuCk.

Better QB, better RB, better DL, better LBs, better coached. NCSU is going to go 8-4 or so in one of the toughest divisions in the country and end up with good bowl game. South Carolina is going 5-7 at best in one of the worst divisions in football.

If deshaun starts to hit the long throws the running game will see somewhat of a boost I believe. The opposing teams are stacking the box and waiting for Watson to connect on those passes and he Has yet to show that he can this year. He gets going and the box numbers drop I think we run wild on whoever we want to

Teams will continue to stack the box until DW starts to make the downfield throws.

I agree 100% if DeShaun finds his rhythm with the deep ball it'll space out the coverage and also play deeper which will set up an easier run game for Watson or Gallman. Even with good coverage down field if he becomes more accurate I like our chances with the group of receivers we have.
