May have more losses than us, but their losses are to better overall teams. The at Alabama loss in OT by 2 was a great loss if there is such a thing. This is not a flame on Brownell or anything, but we had three really bad losses. Head to head we lost by 20. Anyways, I hope we win the ACC and do well. Just saying that I can see why UNC is rated higher

Hopefully Virginia knocks them out because they are the team I believe will be toughest to beat.. only thing is Clemson struggles with Virginia also.. I’d rather play any team other than those two

Here in charlotte they are hoping state beats us so when they beat state it will be a "better" win.

I agree that they are a solid team.
They are 1-9 in quad 1 games. Atrocious. I have a hard time putting a team in that is 1-9 vs quad 1.

And again I agree with that. Really, not a knock on Brownell or the team, but if better losses is a thing then theirs are against better opponents

I agree that their losses are better than ours. It's unfortunate that there is so much weight on quality of loss.
I'm assuming that every at large ncaa team is a quad 1 opponent on a neutral court. How do you put a team in the tourney that is 1-9 against this quality of team? Even if they beat UVA and are 2-9. Kind of wild. If they lose to UVA and their quad 1 record goes to 1-10, then they have no chance.

Bad losses have ALWAYS affected the quality of a team. Before the NET, RPI was determined by the quality of your losses and wins. This isn't new.

They are an odd team (after last year's run and most guys coming back).
Yeah, their Q1 record is terrible, but they have basically beaten all of the teams they were supposed to beat - no bad losses. Kind of the completely opposite season from what we have, with a few good wins and a few terrible losses.

UNC was 15/33 shooting 3s against Clemson which made the difference. The next game they were 5/31 shooting 3s against Miami and lost.
That's the way it goes sometimes.

One would think if teams shoot 50% on us, "often", then our 3 point defense would rank near the bottom of the ACC. Spoiler alert.... it does not.

If they go by head to head then we should be in over Penn st, pitt, and nc st. Unc has 1 or 2 quad 1 wins and have had over 10 chances to get those wins.

UNC grad here. In my opinion the Heels do not deserve an invite to the tournament unless we get the automatic bid by winning the ACC. If the Heels get to the final game and lose, well maybe?? We played a difficult no conference schedule but lost to the good teams. I just don’t understand the concept of a “good loss”.

I grew up in Salisbury area in NC and went to college at ECU. Was accepted at UNC Chapel Hill but fell in love with ECU when I went. Living in NC, all my friends were either NC or Duke fans and maybe I met one NC State fan. That was during the 80s and early 90s when the ACC was the king of basketball. It hurts to see how bad this conference has become. Clemson has never been relevant, yet every time I would cheer for them tirelessly against my NC and Duke fans. I am glad we are ahead of both of them year but the fact that we are 3rd in the ACC and clinging to hope that we can make it to the NCAA tourney is disappointing. Gone are the days of Sampson, Jordan, Worthy, Daugherty and Bias among others. Makes me sad.

I agree. It’s just not the same feel. I’m 58 so I we’ll remember the glory days of the ACC. Heck, it’s hard for me to even hate dook like I used to. The players are in and out so fast that I don’t even know who they are much less hate them. Lol.

I went to the unc Clemson game. It was wild how down on the team most unc fans are, but it makes sense. Almost every unc fan I spoke to expected to lose to us.
They were all very surprised at how well they shot it against us. When they were on fire against us, I kept hearing, "we've been missing these shots all year"
Of course all the haters on tigernet blamed every 3 they made on brownell.

I am not naive to think that every miss shot, and every bad game is Brownell's fault. Sometimes things just happen. It just feels like it happens several times a year and often to a lesser team. It is frustrating and has been a long 13 years of inexplicable losses. Brownell seems to be an alright guy, represents the university well and runs a clean program as far as I know. However, it appears that he sometimes cannot stop the long droughts of scoring and defensive decisions that would provide a better plan against teams. I would agree this is the best offensive team we have had in a long time. It is more exciting to watch and there are multiple people who can score other than throwing up 3s constantly. Not a great recruiter but is a wizard at finding decent players in the portal and gelling them together to make an okay team usually.

extremely disappointing season for a lot of TarHeels... they were expected to be in the mix for the NCAA title this year
but when Davis and Love are scoring the ball well, they can beat anyone... if they're not, they are just and above-average team
being an alumnus, i will always love UNC basketball and i watch quite a few UNC games, but i'm much more invested in the Tigers

Exact opposite for me. Nothing compares to the arrogance of a UNC fan. What I find puzzling is why the entire basketball nation is on the edge of their seats wondering if UNC will make the tournament. WGAS.

and a team that made a run to the championship game last year as an 8-seed, with a 1st-year coach

Sorry, I was working and putting out fires.
Last year, returning players, 2nd year coach. So we award tournament spots based on perceived value. Which is, in a nutshell, commonly referred to as "branding".
Scroll through this board and see how many tnetters are wondering why FSU is ranked so high for NEXT year. It is because they have a bigger brand than the current conference champion.
All the "branding" and quad this and that all based on some algorithm on which team, conference, player, golfer, whatever, is perceived to be the best. because the perception is the reality. Most hits, likes, comments wins.
Anything short of UNC running the table and they should not be in the NCAA Tournament. I know, the Tarheels know, Hubert knows it. The only thing that doesn't is the algorithm that drives the brand.
It's not crazy that the 7th team in the league is on a (perceived) better bubble than the team that finished 3rd?

Of all the teams that are in the ACC that deserve a break, UNC is not one of them. They have gotten virtually every break known to man over the last 50 years.
