Art Briles? Seems a fitting match!

Art Briles will be their next coach because over there, winning is the only thing and they figure they can sanitize Briles enough to be accepted by the Auburn faithful. Bobby Lowder will see to that.

Ifor they fire Gustav I would expect them to go after Petrino as well. Bobby Lauder tried to get them to hire him before they hired Chizik. I could see Gus trying to hire Briles as OC if he can keep his job. I don't see any major program offering him a head job for quite a long time. I figure he'll end up as an NFL assistant or a college OC.

A pretty well-heeled Auburn booster I know told me that Petrino has been lobbying behind the scenes yet again for the Auburn job.

Big problem is buyouts. There's some huge ones in place that would click in if they fired Malzahn, and tried to take Petrino away from Louisville...apparently the Louisville AD, Bobby Julich, was no fool...and locked Petrino into a long-term contract with some huge - like, $10 million - buyout penalty clauses if Petrino were to switch jobs. Julich got burnt once; when he re-hired Petrino he had him over a barrel and he knew it. Good bit of business on Julich's part...and it could keep Petrino at Louisville for awhile.

Not sure if that's good or bad. Petrino tends to be a slash-and-burn artist; he wins fast and then leaves town in a hurry, invariably leaving a depleted (especially on the defensive side of the ball) talent base in his wake. Their Georgia and TCU parolees...er, sorry, transfers are all about to graduate and the recruiting rankings suggest he may need to comb the arrest reports for future replacements, and in a fairly big hurry. Louisville's front-end talent on D is very good; their depth is nonexistent.

I believe if Auburn fires Malzahn his buy out at the end of the season will be 9 million. That's a lot of reasons for Jay Jacobs to give him a little more time.

"Auburn with a lake." Auburn will and have sold their souls to beat Bama. We are not that team in our state. We don't sell out like them and our feathered brethren.

We'd all like to think that we're above that, but I remember the discussions after Tommy was fired and in the early days of the Dabo era.
