Next year we have to cut 1 from the team

Mar 9, 2014, 7:39 PM

If we don't lose KJ. Who does everyone think the 1 we lose will be?

I feel like Roper, Smith and maybe even Djambo could be in danger. Josh Smith is the one I feel like we will lose.

Can't help but feel like KJ will be gone. Getting top

Mar 9, 2014, 7:43 PM

20 projections now. Can't imagine him coming back if that talk keeps up.

I think that he will be back to learn all that he can from Brownell so that he will get a better draft contract, I really do....

KJ's family seems very supportive of him, they come to most of the home games… This gives me hope that they will be on the side of him staying, and that they will not be all about him getting the money as soon as he can.

With me not ever being really excited about BB until the past 4 or 5 years. I really don't know how many scholarships a BB team are allowed, or how many can be on a team. So what is the rule on that if you don't mind sharing your BB knowledge to a very loyal Tiger fan. I have picked up on and learned a lot of it on my own. And I wouldn't be asking for help now but, I'm hearing you say we must cut one and I'm wondering why. Thanks a lot to who ever wants to share you BB knowledge to one that really wants to know, b/c I am now hooked on Clemson BB!!!

We had maximum number on scholarship this year and have 2 signed for next year. Coleman transferred,so if KJ comes back, one other must be gone. Looks like Josh Smith will be odd man out. Have to believe Roper was hampered by stroke, and he really stepped up yesterday with Filer out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

13 scholarships max, 15 players max

Mar 9, 2014, 9:28 PM [ in reply to Re: Next year we have to cut 1 from the team ]

We have 14 players, and Carson Fields is a walk-on so we have 13 scholarship players.

Once the season started Devin Coleman transferred so we were down to 12 scholarship players.

No seniors on the team so graduation is not an option to clear space for the two guys coming in, which would put us at 14 scholarships.

Finally, the only options are either cut someone or KJ goes pro. But it's common fan knowledge that KJ could really improve and become a lottery pick if he stayed one more year. However, a trustworthy source of mine (friend of KJ's) said that he's leaving, and I don't like our chances of him coming back.

That being said, if he were to come back, I feel that Josh Smith would get cut. He's 6-8 and a bad 260, whereas Grantham is about 6-7 or 6-8 and 200, so he is long and lean and will probably bulk up a little bit.

Hope I helped

You most certainly did and I thank you much. They only allow a +1, but I will get you again even if I don't like what you say. Fair enough, and I'm learning more about my new sport all the time, and again, TY!!!

Isn't Harris going on his mission trip

Mar 9, 2014, 9:57 PM

next year for two years? If so he will not count against our numbers and can come back in two years and play his senior year.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

I completely forgot about that, maybe no cuts will have to be made

Re: Next year we have to cut 1 from the team

Mar 9, 2014, 10:15 PM

What if one of the guys on scholarship tears up a knee or one of the current guys red-shirts. Does he count against the max in either case? My guess is someone will transfer out.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

because Josh Smith's minutes have continually declined

Mar 9, 2014, 10:32 PM

as the season has progressed, I'd not be surprised to see him transfer after the season.

Re: because Josh Smith's minutes have continually declined

Mar 9, 2014, 10:45 PM

That's why I thought Roper may be in trouble, his average has dropped dramatically. I did notice, however, that he did very well this week vs Pitt

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Alternate solution:

Mar 9, 2014, 11:33 PM

Brownell could simply ask one of the players to give up their scholarship and pay for school. I'm not sure how feasible that would be, or who could shoulder it financially, but it is a possibility is it not?

Re: Next year we have to cut 1 from the team

Mar 9, 2014, 11:54 PM

Not sure what you mean about someone getting cut. This isn't the nba, a scholarship entitles you to 4 years of school. Yea dude might ride the bench but he want be off the team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Legally scholarships are only 1 year and must be renewed

Mar 10, 2014, 9:43 AM

Teams don't generally cut players because it hurts your reputation in recruiting, so they encourage players to transfer, become student coaches, etc.

Realistically, I think either Harrison goes on his mission, Rooks gives up basketball because of his hip injury, or Smith transfers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

might be rooks

Mar 10, 2014, 10:41 AM

not much being said about his recovery..but of course, kj is the most likely loss.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

GoTiguhs!!

We need him...

Mar 10, 2014, 12:10 PM

Rooks is a shooter and everyone knows this team needs a shooter. We usually don't hear much about injury recoveries until it matters, which will be going into next year.
I'm sure that he is doing what he is supposed to do and will be a help to this team.

That being said...the backcourt will be crowded going into next year. Ajukwa is really starting to play well....Roper showed signs of his old self yesterday (hopefully that will continue)....Hall and Harrison seemed to have the starting guard positions locked up...then there's Filer. Not sure how all the PT gets split up.
