when you look at good linebackers on our best teams there are three Davises. Not saying they should all be on the list but isnt it interesting on the three best Clemson teams to dat (by end of season result) 3 Davises had prominent roles

1) Anthony Simmons 2) Leroy Hill 3) Levon Kirkland 4) Ben Boulware 5) Dumb-Dumb Windham...the only linebacker who the officials ask the coach to remove from the game before he killed someone .
From Coach Howard's Book On Dumb Dumb
Howard told another story about Dumb-Dumb. “We were going up to play Boston College. I was showing a Boston College Film to Dumb-Dumb. The year before, this fellow from Boston College had made a lot of good runs against us.
“So I told Dumb-Dumb, “We got to stop that boy this Saturday.”
He said, “Coach the third time I hit him, he’ll be out of the game for keeps.”
“I didn’t pay much attention to that. I thought it was a boy talking big.
“We kicked off to Boston College to start the game. That boy, caught the ball and started up the field. Dumb-Dumb hit him so hard the kid’s shoes came off. He threw the football down on the ground, staggered off the field and never came back in the rest of the game.
“I asked Dumb-Dumb coming back on the plane how he knew he was going to knock that boy out of the game.
He said, “Coach I told you it would be after the third time I tackled him just to protect myself, But I really figured the first time I hit him, he would come out of there.”

1. Jeff Davis 2. Anthony Simmons 3. Levon Kirkland 4. Bubba Brown 5. Larry Hefner (old school)
I think it's interesting that Venables hasn't had any top flight linebackers. With our improved recruiting and his coaching/linebacker experience, I would have expected him to have at least one on this list.

been on this list if he hadn't badly injured both knees while he was at Clemson.
He was a 5-star coming out of high school in Florida.

So many great players who made great professionals as well from the 1980s and later. Simmons, Simmons, Kirkland, McDaniel, Jeff Davis, Adams, etc.
All Kendall Joseph did was win two national championship rings as a starting linebacker.
