My thoughts on the Spring Game after having a chance to reflect.

Qualifier: This was the spring game, which is a controlled scimmage, and a lot of our top players did not play. After a summer of workouts and fall camp, real games this fall could look very different. Now, these are my takeaways ...

The main thing is, I didn't see anything to indicate the much needed progress by Cade Klubnick.

The second thing is, I didn't see significant improvement overall with our offense. The offense was not outstanding in any area. O-line got manhandled and beat most of the day. The downfield passing game remains a big question mark, even though in fairness, we hit a couple of long ones late.

Trent Pearman was the best QB on the field Saturday, and it wasn't close. Anything else is coachspeak and nonsense. Klubnick and Vizzina both made some mistakes and were inconsistent. Vizzina has the physical tools no doubt, and has the potential, but still looked lost at times, as did Klubnick.

Hard to tell much about our RBs.

Wesco is the real deal at WR. He's skinny, but he doesn't play skinny. Reminds me very much of a young Nuk Hopkins, but a bit more athletic maybe. He really glides and can make people miss. Has good hands and really looks the ball in. Brimming with natural talent and insticnts. Gonna be a difference maker.

Our tight ends looked good for the most part.

Our defense is elite across the board.

Sammy Brown (like Wesco) is as advertised. Absolutely ready to make an impact at this level. Woodazz aka"Whoopass" has come into his own and will be a major factor.

Jamal Anderson is ready to break out - future stud.

We have a kicker in Nolan Hauser.

Same takeaways. Would like to see Garrett Riley customize the so-called "Clemson Offense" for Cade Klubnik.

Yep, it doesn't seem like Garrett has got the reins all to himself. Still too much Dabo and past concepts in there.

I think as far as the offense is concerned, the thing no-one wants to admit is we just don't have the talent. Maybe at a position here or there, but not across the board. I think people also have to accept that Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence were the exception, not the rule.

Agree on all you said. I think we could be better than last year but only marginally. I take some comfort that FSU are depending on DJU…
