Bern's is absolutely a staple, but it is highly over rated.

Is this where Hulk Hogan's restaurant is? If so, maybe try it out. I've heard it may have slipped a bit in quality but man was it good when I went. Pretty neat memorabilia everywhere. Ever since the racist comments, I think it went a little South. But hey, good food is good food.

WestShore Pizza (located right off Westshore Blvd) also known as "Bobby V's". They serve all kinds of food and have cheap beer and wine!

I moved to Tampa after graduating in May and although it is not a foodie scene there are certainly some good spots to get some grub. -For breakfast Daily Eats on South Howard is a quality start. Fresh food in a renovated diner, usually has a decent wait outside. -If you are looking for sandwiches then Datz café will have you covered. Great spot with awesome homemade chips topped with gorgonzola sauce as their main side. -You are in Tampa so Hispanic food is always a go to. Loli's Mexican cravings has excellent tacos and tamales. A real hole in the wall joint located in an old house just north of the stadium. -Go to West Tampa Sandwich shop to get an authentic Cuban and some coffee. Really inexpensive, but also a little confusing when you walk in. Just go in and sit down if a spot is available. -Bern's is a steakhouse classic, definitely do the tour and the dessert room afterward. Reservations will be hard to come by. -If you need a pick me up then head to Buddy Brew coffee. It is a bit of a coffee snob haven, but its like that for a reason. There is another Buddy Brew in a place called Oxford Exchange that is nearby. It is a gorgeous building with a wonderfully executed interior. There is a brunch spot, a little bookstore and a gift shop all located within the OE.
I am sure I am leaving a few deserving spots off the list, so I'll reply if they come to mind. Have fun!!

Went to Datz last night. It was wonderful. Suggest folks try it if they have time. Go hungry or share a plate though....huge portions.

Don't go to the trendy places. Find something new and different.
Start at Ella's in Seminole Heights for a drink then head to The Refinery for dinner.
When you wake up the next morning DO NOT miss Datz in Tampa for Brunch. If you've hung out in the area to check out any of the anitque stores, etc. you should get a drink at Boca Kitchen Bar Market later that day.
How many days are you in town?

As many have said Berns is a must, but reservations will be hard to come by.
I love the fish spread at Ted Peters in St. Petersburg.
If you are a hockey fan, or just love a good burger, Engine No.9 also in St. Pete is probably my favorite restaurant in the state of Florida.
You have to get a good Cuban sandwich while you are down here.
If you are in the mood for Sushi I recommend Hooks in St. Pete. I grew up knowing the owner and after he passed his wife took over the business and has continued to run it in his memory very well.
Datz is also a fantastic restaurant in Tampa.

Both are in downtown St. Petersburg where there are tons of little restaurants, very trendy spot. Those on a budget can go to the 5 Buck Drinkery, nothing more than 5.99 on the menu.

One of the best steak houses in the nation and they all boast one of the best/largest wine cellar's in the nation. If you're looking for something like that you can't go wrong.

If you're coming to Tampa, the must has to be the Columbia, then everything else. There is a lot of great food here, but The Columbia in Ybor City is the center of it all. It may not be the best, but it's the one you have go to when in Tampa.
Sandwhich/Lunch Brocato's Mazzaro's (Closed Sunday) Datz Daily Eats West Tampa Sandwhich Shop Yeomans Frenchy's
Dinner/Fine Dining Charlies Steakhouse Bern's (good luck getting in there, Charlies is better) Ulele The Columbia Mise en Place Council Oaks Salt Rock Grille Island Way
BBQ - 1. Jazzy's 2. Holy Hog 3. 4 Rivers 4. First Choice
Burgers- Engine 9, El Cap
So many others too, just don't have all day to type.

La Teresita

Best late night Cuban comfort food. Think of it as a Cuban Waffle House. There are several parts to it. You want to enter the part that looks like a diner bar top. I eat here all the time whenever I land late in Tampa for work.

Being a SC transplant that now lives in Tampa Holy Hog is really good. It gets me through the tough times being away from SC BBQ. Particularly the location on Armenia Ave. Great brisket and summer sausage
