Morning meditation - Dabo quote from 2019

4

Jan 8, 2023, 5:25 AM

After reading morning my meditations came across this from when Dabo spoke at the White House in 2019 after the National Championship. Certainly inspires me this morning. Have a blessed day fellow T’Netters

Dabo concluded White House remarks w/ excerpt from Tyler Trent [who passed away from cancer a few years ago]. Then said: "So for this team, go live & be great today. In order for your some day to be a reality, you just have to be your best today. And truly enjoy the journey, because I always believe the best is yet to come."

If you are a Christian, then....

... it is a fact that your best life is yet to come. That is the perspective from which Dabo is speaking.

If someone tries to tell you that you can have your best life now, run away from him as fast as possible.

Are you kidding ?

We live on a fantastic planet with such a diversity of plants, animals, and environments that we could spend everyday learning more, experiencing more, and becoming better human beings (to ourselves and to each other). Everything that a human could want is available to us all. And you want to denigrate anyone who encourages others to live their better lives.

You guys have all of the makings of a heaven right here, right now. But you spend all of your time disparaging human existence in favor of waiting for some better afterlife - for which there is absolutely zero evidence.

Live your better life now - stop avoiding your human responsibilities.

Please re-read the excerpt from Dabo’s comments at the White House in 2019.

Next, please re-read BretFSU’s post.

Then, re-read what you had posted.

Finally, see if you can relate any of your ‘denigration’ and ‘disparaging’ comments to either the first post or BretFSU’s post. If you do this thoughtfully, then you’ll recognize that your imagination has gotten away from your mind.

Relax a little bit and enjoy your day.

danny,

Bret - "If someone tries to tell you that you can have your best life now, run away from him as fast as possible."

That is denigrating and disparaging our only life on this amazing planet - and the use of our amazing brain to make our best life right here on Earth.

Clearly, you and I had interpreted BretFSU’s post differently.

“If someone tries to tell you that you can have their best life now …”

“Now” means, well, now.

To me, this is the ‘eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may die’ philosophy.

Throughout my life, I have observed friends, relatives, and acquaintances who had ascribed fully to this philosophy.

Good incomes; enjoy life while young because there is not much to enjoy once you get old.

Inherit money (sometimes a big hunk); impress your friends by buying lots of ‘impressive’ toys, throwing big parties … ‘live life now.’

In most cases, the inherited money runs out in ~10 to ~20 years, the life skills, discipline, and long-term mindset (to postpone short-term gratification in order to build a stable & sustainable life) had not been established. Even the money from a good-paying job can be wasted.

The ‘live life now’ people become bitter, and usually try to blame anyone other than themselves for their NOW meager standard of living.

The various bad influences in one’s life encourage that person to ‘live it up’ without cautionary advice to the ‘moneyed one.’

SUMMARY: The above is only one such example of why BretFSU, IMO, offered the advice “… run away from him as fast as possible.”

(There are other non-monetary examples about the perils of the ‘it’s all about the now’ philosophy, but I’ll hate writing this right NOW as you will reading it NOW.)

Enjoy your Sunday!

Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
