More than tired of the "we don't have receivers" excuses

Now we've got our "Nbr One" reporter saying it. Nothing wrong with the reporting, but it's justa bunch of horse feathers (kind term). We have good solid guys who we just don't coach up or get the ball to.

Let me ask a few "rhetorical" questions:

How'd that top-end speed advantage work for Duke? Anyone remember about the second play of the game for themn? They challenged us deep and we were right there, no worries. They tried this several more times, same result, as I recall. Did Duke even complete one "long-ball" on us?

Did Duke "High-point" the ball on us? I don't remember it.

I also don't recall Wake Forest having all this wonderful world-class athleticism last year when they threw - what was it - six touchdowns on us?

What Duke did is what we canNOT do, for whatever reasons. It may just be they have a better quarterback right now. They distributed the ball evenly, both sides of the field, short passes, crosses, and those God-forsaken screens to the running backs that farely well broke us. I won't even talk about the defense on this, as there was no excuse for these backs running free like this.

Did Hunter Renfro have top-end speed? Or was it that he knew how to get open and he also had sticky hands. I don't think receiving is so much about this world-class speed that everyone keeps wishing we had as it is moves, juking, hands, desire. Did Nuke Hopkins have "top-end" speed? Everyone knows the answer to this.

Football offense is QB and receiver timing, and synchrony. The pro's have it, college does not have it nearly so well.

Our QB spent most of the night running to his RIGHT, scrambling to his RIGHT, and using one-half of the field. He never rolled back to his left out of trouble. Their attack was balanced.

I will take up for our receivers, who did not get the ball delivered to them, or were not coached to get open with whatever abilities they have.

Another question no one has asked, or answered. We have a "2 million dollar man" OC who came in, had all spring, summer, fall, to prepare a scheme, and what where the first four plays? Anyone remember?
It was an even distribution of the ball to different players, all of whom are competent players, and we showed the other team we were prepared and ready to use the talent we have on the field, all over the field - NOT. The first four plays were to Shipley - all four. Three handoffs, and some sort of slip screen that didn't work for no yardage. We all love Shipley, he's a stud, but we are putting too much on the guy. We should have come out on the opening series and showed we were ready to use our playmakers, and yes we have some.

I know as spectators we can analyze and come up with all this stuff, but the coaches have to take the talent they have and make the most of it. That, after all, is what coaching is really all about. They did not do this.

There, I'm done.

Besides AW, who do we have that would start for FSU or ND? Our O-line is very avg and our WR have no separation ability. No one on this squad is remotely in Renfrow’s league.

Our OL played well last night. Not great (tackles were just OK), but our interior line played very well.

Blake Miller at RT is still in the ‘improving’ mode.

Tristan Leigh and Colin Sadler had very little PT last year. Rewatching the game with special focus on LT position, both Leigh and Sadler played pretty good, especially considering their very limited experience. Both are agile, and both are tough. A couple of times for each, their technique wasn’t up to that of a Duke D-lineman.

OL isn’t our problem. This unit will be ready for FSU a few weeks down the road.

Receivers? Gulp.

In large part; I agree with the OP. Duke didn't out recruit us in terms of WRs did they. Surely the 4 star players we have were evaluated for speed as well. T. Brown is likely besides Cole Turner our fastes WR. Both Freshmen. Duke's scheme had WRs getting basically wide open looks on our defense. How?

As far as the OL - nobody can put this on the OL. Nobody. The OL didn't fumble and throw picks. Shipley was over a hundred and Mafah was near a hundred. I think we gave up a sack; but that was on CK(which is typical young QB type deal).

I thought the OL played very well. Remember folks Duke had 18 of 22 starters back off a 9-4 team.

We have the wrs, tightends, and rbs. OL talent is fine. It's coaching and schemes.

Its only one coach TYLER GRISHAM…

Riley has a great offensive scheme… without great WRs the scheme doesn’t work 100%

Qb was running for his life. No time to throw the ball

Our WR corps is nowhere near as talented or deep as it was 2016-18.

Balls hit receivers between the numbers more than twice.

When Cade had time he’s one of the more accurate QBs I’ve seen. That throw to Cole on 3rd down was an NFL throw in such a tight window only for Cole to drop it. The deep ball he threw was in a basket Cole literally didn’t try to jump for it which he could’ve caught Nuk would’ve Mossed both of the corners

Cade never had more than 2 secs before running for his life. We were playing Duke not Bama or OSU. No WR in this group gets drafted.
Use the portal Dabo. So #### stubborn.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is getting frustrated.

Sep 5, 2023, 8:04 PM

AND if that’s the case then why didn’t Dabo go into the portal to FIX this issue he was aware of?
Either way, it’s Dabo’s fault. He’s also the one who promoted and continues to allow Grisham to coach. He clearly should have been let go after last year.
