I dont see the import rates very much now that I moved out of sales and back into operations. The steamship lines will jack up the rates any chance they can but for now there are no space restrictions and rates are down across the board. The big problem in that area is the longshoreman look like they are going to strike.

I knew a dude who took a similar job right out of Duke MBA. Didn’t seem too sexy of a job until he told me what he did and what he made. Good for you.
Me? Work as a small cog in a big a$$ Dow component. I’m basically the guy in Office Space who’s job it was to take reqs from the customer to the engineers because I’m a people person. But mentally I’m Peter in Office Space. Never had an answer when I was a kid in what I wanted to be. I guess that is why I work at Innotech.

Commercial construction superintendent. I build schools and athletic facilities. It's stressful sometimes and I work a lot of hours but for the most part I enjoy it. I'm getting older now so probably move into a PM role soon though.

Clover, there's such a shortage of school psychologists that you are greatly needed. The wait for a child to be seen and tested is too long. Also a huge shortage in speech therapists.

That's why I am still at it. I work part time in 4 different districts and go to 4 different charter schools when they need testing. That adds up to full time and some summer work - just got home from a district and a charter school.

The defaulted electrical sub responsible for the loss filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy so there were no subrogation attempts. The company was protected by the US bankruptcy laws.

Recently had an athletic facility where our MEP defaulted 3/4 of the way through. What a nightmare. Liability for the provider was probably around $750,000. The owner was an absolute moron and they were poorly managed from top to bottom. I had a feeling they would fold from day one.

SDI covers the contractor not the subcontractor...

and carries some pretty hefty deductibles and co-payments, so the insured always has quite a bit of skin in the game to select good subcontractors. However, no business (that is no subcontractor) is immune from failure. We do pursue the defaulted subs pretty aggressively for recovery. Unlike conventional P & P Bonds, a personal indemnity or guarantee is not part of the contract of insurance.

I’m a lady so I may differ from you gents. I am a school librarian and I do love my job. The pay stinks, but it’s the perfect schedule for me with my children. Although I love it, not sure I’d go into education again. It’s too much of a mess for crappy pay.

You are correct!! All three professions are not adequately compensated. We are going to have a huge problem on our hands in the future. We are losing so many wonderful teachers to retirement and many others are quitting in droves. We’ve had first year teachers quit mid year because it was too much. The future of eduction is looking bleak.

Yay!! Me too. I'm a retired Library Media Specialist. I loved my job particularly the years spent in high school. A big part of my job was teacher technology training for the district which I loved though it added a lot to my hours.
No one would believe how stressful it is being a teacher.

How tough the teachers have it, they let us know daily.
But what a shame. They took what should be a pretty good gig (months off, long holiday vacations) and the parents ruined it by being so bad at parenting. I know several young people that did a one and done in that profession due to having their hearts broken every single day.
At best, 60% of parents just don’t have parenting skills nor interest.
Letting a child be feral til age 5 makes it nearly impossible to teach them in a group.
The future will be interesting…

Yep. Hate my job. Non-stop false pressure, fake deadlines, people dumping work on me all the time. Whatever I do manage to produce in this environment, it just gets revised again and again.
But once I got those kids and that mortgage they knew they got me locked down. Trailers aren't cheap.

I am a grounds manager for a private school. I love my job mainly for the people I work with and the enjoyment I get out of working on athletic fields. I get good benefits and very good paid time off. The pay could be better, but I have sent 3 of my 4 sons to school here with free tuition and the two that graduated were accepted into Clemson and both have done really well in college (one graduated in December 2022 and one is scheduled to graduate in December 2023), My youngest will be a senior in high school next year.
I have worked for mom and pop companies, grounds on a golf course, co-owned a landscaping company and garden center, Fed Ex, document destruction company a national engineering firm as a contractor for The FBI. I have done what I need to do to take care of the family.
Of all the jobs I've worked, I'm happiest where Im at right now.

I'm a retired family physician (2001). I loved my old job but I'm loving retirement even more. What's best about retirement is the opportunity to go to every football and baseball home game and an occasional basketball game. I live 100 miles away from campus but have an A-Frame on the lake about three miles away from campus. Go Tigers!! Joeblade

Did 40 years of pediatrics. Loved every minute, especially getting to play with the kids. Best thing was having a kid come in crying and sending him or her out laughing. As one would expect, I am militant about vaccinations, and feel those who oppose them are fools who cost the lives of thousands of children.

Product service engineer for major OEM in the energy field. I have customers who need a lot of attention but a lot of it is explaining how equipment I designed in the 90's works and how analytical methods I pioneered in the '00-'10 time period should be applied. It requires a good bit of patience some days but I have lots of schedule flexibility and freedom and the pay is above average I think. I get to work with some very talented people and I have a decent enough track record that I generally get what I need to get things done.

Retired from telecommunications after 40yr/10 mo. Had some great jobs, met some great people and some jerks. Supported my family and when I hit 62, the feeling hit me. You’ll know when it’s right. Worked p/t for 2yrs in a completely different field for some wonderful people. One day I went in and told my bosses,” boys, I’m goin to the house. “ I thank God every day for allowing me to retire. I stay busy, but on my and my Missus schedule.

to a call from a good friend to help with his business.
The idea was to remodel and reburbish by remerchandising the entire store, and he believed my experience would help. I initially thought it would be parttime, very limited in duration; after a month, he asked me to remain, and I agreed, as we both felt there was a good bit more to accomplish. My only request was to a four-day week without any major role, other than the initial one.
I had run my own business for years, dealing only with manufacturing owners, managers and with retail store owners. My friend's store was retailing, and I found that I enjoyed the environment plus working with the public. Fortunately, my mental capacities have remained intact (almost 76 now,) as has my health, and I believe working around younger people has been a tonic, which has been good.
Kind of funny, but the only members of my immediate family still working are the oldest (me) and the youngest, my brother who is a TNet member. Everyone else is retired. Yet, most of my life, I have marched to the beat of my own drum, and consequently, have no plans to quit working. One of the elixers I have, also, found is my age seems to be a benefit in most cases, as the younger folks seem to appreciate my years of experience along with advice I typically render. And for those who think I'm out of my mind, welp partners, they've got a problem...not me! lol

Rewarding career field. I have had the chance to serve with some great Americans, live in some cool spots and travel the world….overall I don’t have many regrets.
I do find the profession less rewarding in recent years due to:
1)woke politics invading the DoD
2) watching leaders who are scared to make the right decisions due to fear of complaints
3) Our younger generation that is serving feels so dang entitled.
25 years of service in the rear view mirror, 3 more to go until!

Been retired for years. All I get to do now is sit around and think about all the land I bought and answer the phone calls from people from everywhere wanting to move to the Blue Ridge, I met some interesting investors in the last few years. I wish the tax laws would allow me to dispose of some of this acreage. Hate to make Uncle Sam richer.
You perhaps will not believe this but I have met a couple of guys who have become billionaires in the video game world. Actually I’ve met their “front men”. They don’t do a lot of socializing with old dried up Clemson men!
