Lots of mistakes in all areas of the game

Oda not being on 2nd when Clark flew out to literally the center field wall. Oda tagged but didn’t read that the throw was way off when the whole play is right in front of her. She could have walked to 2nd.
The next batter Brown not getting down the bunt.
Then Cagle was bailed out by a bad throw on a swinging bunt, but she hesitated out of the box and didn’t hustle. She even let up at the bag. She really got bailed out there b/c that ends the inning and no double by Knowler.
That sequence is not championship softball. I still go back to FSU capitalizing on every minor opportunity to score.

Spot on. Good wrap by all. I'm wondering if that was indy ace, the same that beat Oregon last night. Obviously indy isn't chopped liver, and it's just the 2nd game, and it came off an easy batting practice game last night... but this game was eerily similar to the nc st game we lost late season last year.
Surprised that Millie got punched without many k's. Given that indy could become a surprise team (we won't know for awhile), maybe she pitched good. Couldn't tell with the camera. What'd the experts think. Again, reminded me of the way she got hit late season.
As elated as I was last night, I was that concerned tonight. Biggest positive for me last night was 12 hits. Nothing prettier than a solid hit double to the gap. You can take your moon shots, but a hard hit double, I'll take any time. So yes, the lack of productivity from our 5-9 has been our Achilles every season. Yes, I'm nitpicking for only 2 games, but I didn't think we were getting solid contact and plate appearances looked all too familiar. Yes, my desire is to close the gap between the Oklahoma/FSU’s.

You're concerns are definitely valid (through 5). We have to get back to

hitting ropes instead of easy pop-ups to the infield and easy fly balls. Got to have better situational hitting, we're back to leaving too many RISP. Rittman reminded me a little of Monte over the weekend; he just let them play, no small ball to speak of really. We started the weekend uber-aggressive on the base paths and then went conservative (I guess getting 3 or 4 thrown out at the plate will do that). I thought we left 2 runs out there yesterday.
As for pitching, Millie is going to have to mix it up a little more and keep hitting spots...if she relies too much on that changeup teams will figure it out. She doesn't have the speed to blow anything by the batter, pick those corners and throw the change in the dirt. Brooke is the same way, yesterday she just threw too many pretty pitches and Mizz teed off on them. I thought Regan pitched well yesterday and Olivia Duncan definitely has potential. Cagle is looking very good so far, a little surprised she didn't start yesterday (or any game). We've got to find someone besides Val that can beat the Oregons and Missouris to sniff a chance at making it to the world series. I'm not sure we played like the #5 ranked team this weekend.
This was a good tournament and we played 4 pretty good teams and 1 high school. Anyway just my $0.02, sorry for the ramble.

Thanks. Their pitcher krings pitched 3 games. 19 total innings. Beat Utah 4-3 and gave up 7 hits and 4ks. She beat liberty 10-1 in 5.
We had 6 hits, 4bb, and 6 ks. Agree we left some runs out there all games. Surprisingly we only had dingers in the high school game.
Probably going to take knowler some time against average to good pitchers. She'll feast off our weaker teams about like JoJo did last year.
One of my ongoing concerns is most of our girls aren't progressing from year to year in hitting. Jury still out this year on our 2 transfers but I haven't been real impressed with who he's brought in. With our success, we should have exceptional talent lined up wanting to come here and play. I mean great hitters.
My other ongoing concern is we've had 5 years of recruiting and we're not seeing any progress to take a spot from someone. I'm using oda as an example. Not really a good hitter at all, and just a good outfielder. Same with having to rely on transfer players. I would have thought with our success, we'd have recruited and developed someone that was better. That doesn't seem to be happening. If anything, we've regressed.
Which is exactly what happened with Monte ball... recruited kids that had glowing resumes and they'd never progress and get better.
We'll know more after this month. Both scar and uga seem to be good tests. Because other than Duke, we have a weak conference schedule. Apologies if you read this for my rambling but wanted to express my thoughts not necessarily based on just our 5 games. Thanks for your response.

I think back to that infamous play in game 3 last year when the Florida State girl stole home from third base because the Clemson infielders weren't paying attention.

It’s early, but to be honest I see the same impatient approach from the lineup that we saw once we hit good conference pitching last season. It’s a deficiency that’s spanned across multiple seasons with the same core group. They either need better instruction laying of the rise pitch junk or Rittman hasn’t recruited players with better hitting potential. My guess is the truth is both are factors. I also think we miss the slap hitting and speed from Miklesh. That has it’s place for manufacturing runs playing small ball. Right now I’m not seeing a team that’s getting farther than supers without some bracket upsets.
