Lot 11 Tailgate Question
Aug 20, 2021, 10:22 AM
|
|
My dad and I had been splitting the cost of IPTAY dues and tickets since I graduated in 2013, however, they were always under my dad's account. My dad passed away in January so I had to start a new IPTAY account under my name, which means I lost all of our priority points.
We had a spot at Lot 22 for a few years and I was hoping to get as close as possible, as I liked the location. I have been allocated Lot 11 this year and I was wondering if anyone has experience parking here. It says that it is paved and grass parking, however, I looked on google maps and it doesn't look like there is much grass to park on. I was also not allocated a specific spot since our parking passes just say "Area". Any help or clarity on this would be greatly appreciated.

I know people who still maintain IPTAY accounts under the names of deceased parents in order to retain their seating and parking priority and they have been doing so for decades.

They refer to them as “their family’s seats.” Been in the family “for generations.” Not a Life Membership, which is only transferable once anyway. IPTAY has got to realize Great Grandpa isn’t really 123 years old.

IPTAY certainly catches some and forgets loyalty years

I don't often make a negative comment regarding Clemson Athletics or IPTAY, but they certainly do tell some longtime IPTAY families that they will not get their longtime season tickets if "Daddy" dies and the family does not want to increase their IPTAY dues. I understand the IPTAY policy of not honoring a membership if the member dies, but since a lot of people are still getting away with it, then IPTAY and CUAD could be nicer about it.
Here is a factual situation that occurred this year: A best friend of mine suffered the loss of his father in 2019. In 2020, the surviving family member paid the IPTAY dues, as he had done in the past, and ordered 2020 season tickets. He got a call from IPTAY office saying that he could not order the tickets because they knew his father had passed away. After much discussion, IPTAY said he could get the season tickets one more year. THEN, the pandemic hit and IPTAY gave everyone the choice of getting a refund of their ticket money or "redshirt" and leave the money with IPTAY and get the same seats in 2021. He chose to "redshirt". Fast forward, to 2021...he ordered the tickets for this season. Then, he gets a call telling him all over again that he could not get tickets for 2021 even though he "redshirted" as allowed by IPTAY. The worst part about it all is he is not allowed to get the tickets he paid for and IPTAY/CUAD refuses to refund him the prepaid ticket order dollars paid in 2020. Basically, he was swindled out of nearly $2000 by IPTAY. His appeal was even denied by D Rad.
So, be careful if you get tickets from an IPTAY membership of a deceased member. IPTAY and CUAD will not be nice about it nor will they honor decades of loyalty to the program.

This is exactly what I was trying to avoid. It’s a clear cut rule and I would hate to be on that end of it. I’m only 30 years old so I have many years ahead of me to build priority points in my own name and not have to worry about getting caught.

I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet now instead of trying to continue to use my dad’s account and possibly get caught down the road. Then I would inevitably have to start from square 1. It had only been 7 years worth of points that was around 70ish or so. Not like we’re talking about decades of commitment. That would’ve been a completely different situation.

Very sorry for your loss. That is not a reserved space lot so get there early. Unless you sit on the East end I suggest you go through or around Lot 10 and go to the West End to enter because the hill on Williamson Road is a killer.

Thank you for your condolences! That was kind of what I was thinking as the best route to the stadium. I’m a civil engineering major so I would always park in the lower lots across the street and have to hike up that hill to Lowry, along with staying in Johnstone my freshman year and those were the closest parking lots. It definitely kept me in shape during college!

Lot 11 is an outstanding spot for a nice tailgate. Years ago that corner was public parking and we parked for several years. Getting there super early and parking right on the corner is what I would advise. It is an excellent spot, but a bit of a hike to the stadium. About 80% is paved and just the area right in front of Perimeter road and at the intersection of Old Stadium is grass.

We had Lot 11 in 2019. We really liked it. It’s a little bit of a walk but not terrible. Several options between Grass and Paved spots, “1st come 1st serve”. If you get there pretty early you will have a lot of options.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I thought that it was first come first serve but I just wanted to confirm. We’ll have a full setup this year with a Dish Winegard antenna and generator so we were already planning on getting there early. It looks like a pretty good spot though with a good amount of shade. My dad and I actually use to pay to park across the street as well during the early 2000s. It’s a great spot and easy to get out after the game since we live in Greenville.
