Unbelievable

Nov 12, 2013, 9:47 AM

Wearing my Tiger sweatshirt & was just stopped and man said, " you won't be wearing that shirt after Thursday!" I thought for sure it was a coot fan from cooterville... To my shock & disbelief he said " nope, I'm a Duck," my reply well, I'm not a fan of any "fowl" teams! Chickens, Hokies, or Ducks!! Go Tigers!!!! Lets dominate those BEES!!

Did you ask him if he owned a Stanford sweatshirt since they were the best west coast team?

COrrect response would have been . . .

us in a BCS bowl?

Probably thinking of hanging 70 again

Nov 12, 2013, 9:55 AM

In all honesty we may be able to beat them but I think it takes a certain team like a Stanford and Bama to beat Oregon. You have to run the ball and be able to pound out first downs and keep the clock moving.

If we played Oregon Saturday on a neutral field I think it will be hard for us to hold them under 45.

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sorry, we are not Tennessee. We would give then a heck

Auburn

Nov 12, 2013, 10:08 AM [ in reply to Probably thinking of hanging 70 again ]

Auburn held them to 19 points a few years ago I believe. That was a terrible Auburn defense who only had a dominant DT. I would say Grady Jarrett is not to terribly far from Fairley but the rest of our defense is much better than theirs was. Auburn also played very poorly on offense that game, so it's not like they never let Oregon have the ball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we gave up 51 to FSU and 35 to UGA

Nov 12, 2013, 10:58 AM

Giving up 45 to one of the best offenses in the country would probably happen

Probably around 30....your point?

Nov 12, 2013, 11:02 AM

Take off the orange colord glasses for a second.

Look at match ups. We do not match up well with Oregon. They have lost 2 games the past 2 years to the same team with the same style offense.

Teams that can run the ball and control the clock can beat oregon.

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Take off your Clemson is woe and sorry glasses. We have

the field and in game match ups. I am willing to bet the boys in Vegas would think that a match up with us and Oregon is in their favor.

Can we win? Sure. Are we going to be favored to win? No way. It is not a good match up.

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We will see if we get that match-up Oregon may lose another

But yes I agree, it may be a moot point if we don't take care of business.

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

FSU has a better offense than Oregon

Nov 12, 2013, 11:00 AM [ in reply to If we gave up 51 to FSU and 35 to UGA ]

All you have to do to see it is watch.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Much better? That seems a bit of a stretch for a team that

Nov 12, 2013, 11:03 AM

averages 52 points per game.

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didn't say much better but better

Nov 12, 2013, 11:08 AM

While Oregon has faster running backs, I would bet that is the only advantage they have over FSU on offense. FSU has better WR and O line. I will say the QBs are a push even though I think Winston is a little better (Mariota was passing at right around 50% completions after 2 or 3 games). I will also say (and most will disagree) that the RB position is pretty even and probably goes to FSU as well. They aren't as fast but are better overall players.
So where is my observation so far off?

And by the way we all know FSU has a better defense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

With that said, FSU put up 51 points in DV

Nov 12, 2013, 11:11 AM

Going back to my previous statement. I think it will be hard for us to hold Oregon under 45. I just don't like the matchup.

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You haven't said where you don't like the match up

Nov 12, 2013, 11:16 AM

I don't see all the mismatches. They do not have the tall WR that hurt us against FSU. Their QB is less accurate on underneath balls. Their O line will not stop our penetration like FSU's did at times.

You forget that we handed FSU 21 of those 51 points with our offense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

FSU also took out their starters up 51-7

Nov 12, 2013, 11:31 AM

and had over 550 yards. 450 of which came thorugh the air.

One huge mis match would be our DBs VS Josh Hugg and Bralon Addison. The thought of darius robinson guarding either of those guys makes me cringe.

Another big mismatch for us would be having to defend the first running QB we have seen of the year outside of GT and USC. Mariota averages 9 yards a carry.

It is not a big surprise, we are weak at DB and teams with good WR's will take advantage.

Nov 12, 2013, 11:33 AM

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How does when FSU took their starters out matter?

Nov 12, 2013, 11:39 AM [ in reply to FSU also took out their starters up 51-7 ]

My point is we gave them almost half of their points. Take away the points our offense gave them and they are sitting in that 30-35 range that UGA got.
FSU was a pass first team against us. They are against many people. They use the run to finish games. Oregon is the opposite. They want to run the ball first to set up the pass. This sets up better for us. UVA QB was a runner also. So that would be 3 of our last 4 QBs faced being runners leading up to the bowl game. That's hardly unprepared. We are strong in the front 7 and they are a run first team. It's hardly one of our worst match-ups this season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we play Oregon..

Nov 12, 2013, 12:02 PM

Don't be shocked when the point spread comes out and the ducks are a 10-17 point favorite and the over/under is above 72.

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We don't have a consistent enough pass rush,

Nov 12, 2013, 10:00 AM [ in reply to Wonder what the Ducks might be thinking of a showdown with ]

an experienced enough secondary or a strong enough OL to match-up will with a team like Oregon.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Our lack of confidence amazes me

Nov 12, 2013, 10:12 AM

Strong enough O line? Their D line averages about 250 pounds. Not exactly bruisers.
And I am not saying we will hold them to 13 points on offense like Stanford did but our defense isn't exactly terrible like Auburn was a couple years ago when they shut them down in the NC game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wow dude... usually I feel you and I are on the same page

Nov 12, 2013, 10:21 AM [ in reply to We don't have a consistent enough pass rush, ]

but seriously? Oregon is not a world beater. Yes thy are quick, but our DLine is very good. I think it would be a high scoring game, but we could hang. Standford's Dline is probably better than ours but otherwise I think we are a pretty even team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Stanford's OL is far better than Clemson's IMO.

Nov 12, 2013, 11:03 AM

I didn't say the DL wasn't good. I said they don't get a consistent pass rush.

Re: Stanford's OL is far better than Clemson's IMO.

Oregon is a run first offense. You see how off they were when Stanford forced them to pass.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

T-#6 in total team sacks says otherwise...

Guess who else is T-6... Stanford.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"consistently good" yes.

Nov 12, 2013, 11:44 AM

Only bad game i've seen was vs. FSU and they're stout OLine. Georgia had a pretty veteran Oline and we handled it. That's 1-1 vs. elite offensive lines.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson 59 Virginia 10 Oregon 59 Virginia 10

I didn't see the quack and V game, but in our game with V. The td they got was a they got away on one play. Other than that, our D shut them down.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And, we played three QBs....

Nov 12, 2013, 10:23 AM [ in reply to Clemson 59 Virginia 10 Oregon 59 Virginia 10 ]

Any doubt that if we left Boyd in as long as they left Mariotta, we'd have put 70-plus on the Cavs?

badge-donor-20yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-revdodd.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They traveled across the country to play UVA. If the game

Nov 12, 2013, 10:34 AM [ in reply to Clemson 59 Virginia 10 Oregon 59 Virginia 10 ]

was as close to Oregon as it is to Clemson, Oregon would have RUTS a bit more, I believe. It's not like jet lag has no effect on teams. Around 75% of teams in the NFL traveling coast to coast lose the games.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You mean like

Nov 12, 2013, 10:37 AM

if they came to the Orange Bowl?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The only problem with your assessment

Nov 12, 2013, 10:42 AM

is that they would have a whole week to adjust to the time schedule for the Orange Bowl, not 1 day.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So their beat down of Tennessee was caused by this?

Nov 12, 2013, 10:51 AM
