Line in the sand

Going forward where is the line of demarcation for success with the Clemson Football Program? Is it playoffs or bust? Is it 10, 11, 12+ wins? I'm genuinely curious to know where everyone is.

12 seasons in a row. We’ve screwed around with that a few times lately and this year looks to be a challenge. We started 2021 4-3 but were able to rally. The back half of the schedule is much more daunting this time around.

Because some people can't define or identify success. They are here just to betch. Ok fine. Just be clear what you are betching about. It's either a lack of success as they define it or it's that they don't like Dabo. That's fine, too. There are times when he tries my patience, too. But I remember how I didn't believe in his hiring. Thought it was running scared from Bowden's name and expectations. I couldn't have been more wrong. Rather than staying bitter I got on with being a fan. It's easy when the Tigers are winning. Now is the hard part. Expectations aren't being met but I get the impression from far too many posters that it's never going to be enough.
The posts and threads on here that get the most responses and engagement baffle me. It's almost like 90% of the accounts are employees of TNET or bots. There's not really any interaction or engagement that requires any thought. Just regurgitating Dabo quotes, coot this, portal that, NIL these and you aren't a real fan those.
I'm genuinely curious what is success on a season to season basis b/c I don't think you're going to get a lot of different answers from the 50 or so actual accounts on here.

After all, he seems to know what it means to be a great Clemson fan, even more than those of us who were fans before he was eligible to vote.

I remember many years ago as a young man, I simply pulled for the team to win each game. I loved the wins but hated the losses. I did not freak out if we started the season slowly as the 70’s were a difficult time for Clemson football. I could have never imagined the success Dabo has achieved for Tiger nation as playing at the highest levels of the sport was only a dream. I could have never imagined spoiled fans who seek a reason to be disappointed when a little adversity hits the program given the fact that no team stays on top forever. What is achieved by drawing a line in the sand? So you can be outraged if the imaginary goal is not met? Perhaps just enjoy the game and let the season play out….

10 wins a year is the kind of adversity about 115 Power 5 football coaches wish they had.

Redright,
I would say that, starting next year when the top 12 make the playoffs, that the CFP should be the line. We might miss that mark once in a long while, but if you want to call your program elite (& we should) then you have to make the CFP.

Why?

Maybe we all have different expectations at different times. For example, I’m happy now though I feel we’re in the midst of a decline, because I also see a good chance we bounce right back next year. For example, I was happy during TB years when we were on the rise after TW years, when we beat up the coots but couldn’t win the ACC. For example, I was happy in Dabo early years when we were on the rise, won the ACC, but couldn’t beat the coots. And of course happy when we went right to the top of the mountain. I don’t need any specific targets to make me happy. Just want to feel we play as good as we are, you know, our Best.
