any reverence or loyalty I held for the ACC took the first train out of town after their announcement in 1982/1983 of penalties in addition to and harsher than those levied by the NCAA. Eff those rat bastiges who voted for that piece of conference legislation particularly in light of the recent scandals coming out of chapelhole.
I suppose we should expect no different given that the sunavabish who spearheaded the vote for the extra year of probation for Clemson is now the commissioner of the conference. But I am extremely disappointed in the ACC sports media who continue practically to ignore the ugly cheating unearthed at unc (and the length of time it had been going on) and their lack of commentary about the total silence emanating from Greensboro.
It can no longer be considered whining by unc rivals and opponents within the ACC. The entire self-promoted image that unc ran a model athletic department--since they were hammered in late 50's/early 60's by the NCAA after revelations during several point-shaving scandals that struck college basketball--has proven a huge lie and its now public knowledge that unc had a gigantic advantage over the rest of the league insofar as a complete absence of eligibility standards.
And, of course, the worst was unc's turned up nose while they rested on reputation of strong ethics and academics. It was all a huge lie. ####, all it took was a stroll through the closest parking lot near the gym during basketball practice. Unbiased people in the know had been pointing their finger at unc for decades, but now the truth is there for the public to view. Six people are going to wind up with criminal records most likely. An entire department at unc has been investigated, strongly criticized by outside academics and humiliated to the point that accreditation may well be affected.
And unc continues on its merry way confident the lack of exposure outside the Triangle (yo!, ESPN, there's a story down here!!) without the least bit of alteration to their modus operandi. Hairston and McDonald are just two more examples of the "renegade" athletic department. And yet, provided with moving evidence that unc hedged and misled the NCAA investigation and outright lied about some things has apparently not stirred the NCAA or the investigative sports media to get off their respective duffs. Its more than obvious the ACC has no intention of reigning in the alma mater of the commissioner.

I have to agree with the original writer...UNC and UNC alone orchestrated the extra year of probation and I think (I may be wrong) that when the vote was taken it was something like 5-2---we only had 2 friends in the room...I think WF and Md, which Dean Smith had tried to get Leftie and also Tacy run out for years...after we beat UNC who was pounded the week before by USuC (the ONLY time in my life I pulled for the cluckers) the consummate good sportsman #### Crum announced to his team we "bought" the national championship. It was obvious who was behind it, I think the UNC is the SMU of collegiate basketball and the NCAA should throw the book at them, but they wont...Swofford is a worm as well as a hypocrite; he did not defend Miami at all, but is constantly taking bullets for the cheaters of the decade. If you take away from this post I hate and resent them, you are right, I do. Smith was a criminal and a cheater and Crum and the gang try to hold us back as he know with a national championship in our portfolio, he could not compete with us...I am not defending what we did to get into the problem, I am attacking the hypocrisy and the crusade Smith and Crum led against us and they were not lily white in recruiting shenanigans..

It is known that Swoffie was not in attendance or take part in the vote for the extra year of probation... however... that single misstep by the second poster in no way diminishes the severity of baby (crybaby) blue UNC's current transgrassions. Nor does it lessen the chicken crap NCAA's/ACC's do nothing response.

The NCAA has zero interest in doling out penalties for basketball schools. The entire NCAA budget is driven by revenue from the basketball tournament. They will bend over and kiss the behind of the basketball schools and coaches to ensure that the cash cow continues unabated.

'My eyes have seen the glory!' Finally, a Tiger who admits openly that the ACC, and their anointed prince, UNcarolina, have screwed over non-'Big 4' members of the conference . . for YEARS. I always thought you guys considered that matter to be a figment of the Coots' wild imaginations. Gee, wonders never cease in this world!

or when Swoffie made an FSU women's coach write a letter of apology to every school for holding a player out. It is simply astonishing how the NCAA can justify any of this.
I'm old enough to remember how much Tobacco Road looked down their noses at all things in South Carolina. All these years later things haven't changed.

Obviously it is against our interest to let Clemson in the SEC - but we have only one vote out of 14, we can't block it if the rest of the schools want it.

Have you forgotten the ritual? The grip, password, and symbols? The oath our AD's took (SC,UGA, UF, and KY)swearing on a stack of stuffed little white envelopes to NEVER admit to our fraternity the '4 Unmentionable Lowlifes'?

If they were serious about lowLifes,Usuc would have never had an envelope in the stack. Unless, it was we four lowlifes will fight to keep the top educational schools out of the SEC conference. And we already know that UF and KY wouldn't have been in that pack. With that said, one major lowlife was the leader of that Pat. Yes only one, with the only lowlife in that being U really suck FBdicks.

Thanks for confirming I am not alone... I have hated the ACC since that time as well.. Hard to pull for the ACC period.... Hate Duke/NC mostly.... Will pull for some of the more distant programs however, This punk conference is becoming irrelevant in BB... Sucks in FB, Can't even cheat and improve.
I don't want Clemson in the SEC because those backwoods ignorant ######## kill there own.
We have to succeed alone... Just as it has been for many years and our brand will rise above this 2nd rate also ran punk ### conference.

If anything close to that bad had gone on at Clemson you know the ACC would have added to the NCAA punishment and threatened to kick Clemson out of the conference.

Swofford pushed his agenda through other people. He was not directly involved except behind the scenes. The UNC BOT(or BOG) called AD's seeking support for punishing Clemson beyond ncaa penalties.
And yes, not only does unc not care what we think, they don't really care what others think. There was a time when everyone knew about extra benefits for unc players but unc crossed the line with over 500 fake classes to keep players eligible and then boasting about APR.
They sacrificed academics for ceiling laundry in the Dean Dome and Butch Davis was on his way with the football program.

tarheeledtiger, I am sure you are a fine fellow. You should, however, return to unc and tell the PR firm that Clemson fans are not buying what you are selling. Fertilizer is cheap down here.
Your post about all the awards UNC has accumulated tells all about your puffed up school supporters. When a school sacrifices it's academic honor to protect athletics, I have to assume the academic honor sacrificed was never really worth that much anyway.
