A position if you choose to bat your pitcher? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever to me? I guess that's a quirky college rule? But don't recall it being that way in the past.

The pitcher is the pitcher and the DH is the DH... The pitcher isn't required to hit and the DH isn't required to play the field?

Is it a quirky rule or Bakich F-up?
