has stuck with Tom Riginos(2011-present 337-358)for as long as they have,being he is in his 14th season in Rock Hill and has yet to make an NCAA Regional.Only had 1 40 win season(40-19 in 2015)and did not even make a Regional that season.Coach Riginos does have 2 Big South Regular Season Championships though,in 2014 and 2017.He was pretty good when he was at Clemson from 2003-10 but just has not been able to win like Winthrop did under Horace Turbeville and Joe Hudak.

Winthrop’s athletic department doesn’t have the funds to make a change. Riginos is all they can afford right now. The stadium is even in bad need of repairs.

I figured it might have had something to do with the funds or lack there of within the Athletic Department.Having lack of funds probably because of having had to pay 3 Basketball head coaches since Greg Marshall left.

It wasn’t that. Covid killed the funds coming in from students not being on campus. The buildings sat empty for a long time. As for the stadium, “riding by” doesn’t tell you anything. It’s in bad shape inside.

Not sure why they let Hudak go?? And dang time flies it seems their stadium was just built but I would guess in reality it has been many years now.

Yep, still friends with several that were on those teams. Horace came from Presbyterian and brought guys with him. Finished runner up for the national championship one year.
