and maybe UGA and UF. After that there is a huge drop off. All ACC schools are higher rated than the vast majority of SEC school. Only 3 SEC schools would fit into ACC academically.

I think that was an athletic trailer. Not sure but it seemed to be (sarcastic). When 80,000 people start showing up for debates and chemistry exams they may have an academic channel....until then....the SEC is the top dawg.....so to speak.

Tied with MSU. Louisville is on the way up. Very large athletic budget for a school coming from the Big East (will be second to UNC in the ACC). And lots of upside.
Watch them pass SCar in academic rankings and get into the top 100 within 10 years.

What would be the benefit for any of those schools. None will produce more revenue...none will produce viewership....all would take a piece of the pie while contributing nothing to the coffer. Fear ???? No it's called good economic sense.

them. Fear of their rivals.
Too bad--because it would have created even more epic clashes--Clemson vs Florida, UGA vs FSU, etc. It would have created more viewership and money for such clashes. But the "Gentlemen's Agreement" by those 3 fearful schools is all about fear.
GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You sound like a bunch of old men sitting around talking about how it used to be. If you can not add viewership with your program....you can not join. Everyone else in the free w orld has figured this out. You guys signed a GOR with the ACC so this is not even a viable subject anymore. The SEC network will launch in 2014 and things will go from there. Swofford will take care of you guys.....or. not....either way the SEC is not an option for Clemson with or without a " Gentlemens Agreement".

I could almost feel it last year. We had a backup QB...RB..it was at Clemson, on national TV and Clemson looking for payback. This year at WB....I am not feeling a Clemson win.

Agree. SOS will pour it on the Tigers. Clemson fans with high blood pressure, bi-polar disorder, ulcers, etc., need to stay away from Columbia . . . . not to mention that Gamecock fans are getting ever more difficult to deal with - they even scsre me. I always wear a broad grin after wins at home AND make sure I'm wearing the colors - nearly got thrown off one of the ramps years ago after a come-from-behind win over Ole Miss - I had a back ache and was wearing a frown and no colors - it wasn't purty.

Except that backup quarterback starter as many games as your starter and he's the best QB on your roster. Don't give me that "backup QB" bull crap. If you started Thompson all year you probably wouldn't have lost a game.

It's not clear that the "SEC Network" will garner many viewers. These networks are basketball-centric. The SEC fans just aren't all that interested in peripheral sports.
But seriously, joining the SEC would undo so much that Clemson has tried to do raising its academic profile. As a SCar fan, you probably don't understand (and probably don't have a high school diploma or more than 20 teeth) but the academic rankings really do matter.

One of them actually said they get chills everytime they hear the SEC chant.
Seriously? You care about the CONFERENCE your school is in that much? What's the point? You don't see me giving 2 rips about whether or not Georgia Tech beats Georgia, or if Miami beats Notre Dame. I honestly think it's just because of the money. The Soley Economic-based Conference is so much of a congomerate mess because it makes people buy into stupid "conference affiliation" stuff like this.

Please do not let facts get in the way of your clouded biased thinking. It would be a shame to accept things as they really are when you don't have to. With that said here are some facts....
http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/the-secs-dominance-of-college-sports/
College athletics has never witnessed a run like this by one conference in the most prestigious sports.
If South Carolina wins its third straight College World Series, the SEC would have 13 of 21 national titles in baseball, football and men’s basketball since 2005-06. The scoreboard in those sports would read: SEC 13, Big 12 2, ACC 2, Pac-12 2, Big East 1, WAC 1, Big Ten 0.
Pac-12 2, Big East 1, WAC 1, Big Ten 0.
The SEC could have a clean sweep of 2011-12 trophies in football, men’s basketball and baseball. The last time that happened was the Pac-8 in 1972-73, with USC winning in football and baseball and UCLA dominating in basketball. Throw in women’s basketball and, if South Carolina wins in baseball, the SEC would have 15 of 28 championships in the so-called Big Four sports since 2005-06.

The Big 10 is the best basketball conference and believe it or not the ACC is probably tied with the SEC for best baseball conference. Check the top 25. Clemson, FSU, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, etc.

The last ACC champion in baseball was Wake in 1955...try again...the Big East and ACC have been better as of late in basketball.. but Kentucky and Florida (2) have won since 2005....football...well we won't even go there. The point was , with all these, plus track and field, tennis, and all other sports the SEC has excelled above all the others. There are going to be some years others will win but as a whole it can not be denied (by reasonable thinking people) that the SEC has been dominant.

Football I will admit. The football has been nothing short of dominant. Basketball has won national titles but they are not the best basketball conference. Kentucky and Florida (and lately Ole Miss) are the only contending SEC teams.

That is an impressive resume to say the least. It was the contention that the SEC is dominant in the present. The article mentions from 2005- present. Heck Minnesota has 7 national championships in football alone but no one considers those championships when talking about their program. The recent success or failure is what people will judge you on....unless it's your own fan base. The old you're only as good as your last game really applies. The national perception is how you are judged not by your fan base who will always try to paint a rosy picture....and why not. It's your team. Who knows...10 years from now we might be talking about how Duke has been dominating the football landscape.....NOT !

What are you even talking about? Why is it always "Your fan base?" you have to get a dig in on Clemson at every possible opportunity. Every school has people that live in the past. But what builds that national perception is a combination of the program's history as well as their recent success. I've never seen a program so quick to discredit past teams. It's like USC just started their football program 4 years ago and all the years prior were just a warmup. You know what they say, "...Anyone can have a bad century."

"Your fan base" is a generic term meaning "who ever your team is " I guess you just can't read and comprehend at the same time. I have always respected Clemson's athletic programs. I don't down play it to my Clemson friends or Gamecock friends. The coaches seem to be good people, the players are some we recruited so nothing wrong with them. The problem is the same in all fan bases. You have a small number that will scream at the top of their voice when things are good...but they want to fire everyone when something doesn't go right. I have no problem with anyone or anything connected to Clemson but just like all schools you have fans that are just totally delusional. They don't want to hear the negative and talk BS 24/7.

Then why are you bringing up history when talking about who's the best baseball conference?
RIGHT NOW the ACC is the best baseball conference. We will most certainly be the best in basketball for years to come with the new members coming in.

The most recent champion is Arizona. The championship will be decided again very soon. This weeks polls aren't going to decide.....we were talking about recent and the most recent ACC champion was Wake in 1955.

Being the national champion doesn't automatically make your conference the best in that sport. Kentucky and Florida have won multiple national titles but the SEC is consistently one of the worst basketball conferences. You think they give a #### what the rest of you do? Lol. Hell no.

Now wait a minute...are you climbing on the conference bandwagon that you say you don't believe in. If you are then you are still wrong....if not and your only concern is Clemson then....well, you've never won a National Championship in baseball. I know you have in football and that will be your next statement but either you are going to carry the ACC banner or you are not. You can't have it both ways. You want to play the conference card when it suits you and disregard it when it doesn't. I get the 50% pulse rate you carry even as a tiger fan. When did you jump on the bandwagon? You are no way a lifelong fan.....you can't even stay with one defining tactic much less tow the line.

I'm confused.
How does pointing out that Kentucky and Florida could give a #### how good the SEC is in basketball mean that I'm "jumping on the conference bandwagon"?
There's nothing wrong with recognizing that the SEC is the best football conference because it is. The problem with this SEC crap is when fans of teams like Scar think they are on a different level than teams like Clemson and FSU because of their conference affiliation.

A good trailer ...a great football conference ... however

Some predictable jealousy and insults from a few T-Netters. My thoughts are nothing in that video takes away from the greatness and tradition of Clemson University.
As far as SEC academics, Vandy is stellar and UF and UGA are solid and in step with Clemson.
However, on the football field, UGA and SC will find out in 2013 that the SEC symbol on the uniform and the ESPN advertisements will not cover Sammy and Martavis and will not sack Tajh Boyd. Let ESPN deservedly pump the SEC up based on past accomplishments and their recent 4-school seven year run and let Clemson knock it all down in 2013. It's our turn. And it will not be the ACC winning our games. It will be Clemson University. Go Tigers!

Wow....you almost made me say " a rational poster" but you threw the SEC thing out. I love the fact we are a part of the SEC. The money and exposure is something I would have never dreamed of when we were an independent and Metro members. I wouldn't trade where we are for anything. That said....when we played in Memorial Stadium we did not bring the SEC, we were there as a representative of the SEC. The Gamecock players put on the uniforms and played the game. Clemson represents the ACC whether you like it or not. It might not be your fan bases look at it but you are trying to play to a national audience not an individual fan base. The national perception is that Clemson and FSU play in a basketball conference that is weak in football. I know most Clemson fans hate the basketball school tag but with the tobacco road dictatorship...it is what it is. I would not want to chant "ACC,ACC,ACC" either. Clemson is closer to an SEC school than an ACC school but that may change now that your administration has tied you to the ACC, for what seems like life. The SEC members are proud to be a part of the conference and members of the ACC are not so proud to be a part of theirs. So be it !

We could chant ACC when Duke or UNC win the national title in basketball but we don't. We could have chanted ACC when FSU was dominating the 90's but we didn't.
The state of Alabama has the last 4 national titles. Cootlumbia is a long way from Alabama.

It's because you are ashamed of the ACC. There is no pride in chanting a conference name that you have no love for. I understand the tobacco road hate and the Swofford hate but that is the problem with the ACC. It doesn't make you proud....it tries to lock you and and now that you are locked in.....the fan base is not happy with it. I know all the Clemson fans I have all hate the ACC and Swofford. I can't imagine that type of fan to go Rah,Rah,..we love to hate you. We are excited about the SEC....you are not excited about being an SEC type program tied for years to a basketball conference. I get that....but it makes sense that SEC schools are proud while the ACC schools get a GOR and a 50 million dollar buy out.

At the same time why would I be proud? I'm not a Duke or UNC fan, I'm a Clemson fan.

You just answered your own question...why would you, you take no pride in a conference representative winning a national title. If you have no pride in the other schools then you are ashamed of them. Plain and simple. I have no problem with that...it just doesn't look good to a national audience. Doesn't play well in the whole scheme of things. It's the big picture dude.....

Because it isn't about conference loyalties. It's about your own program. You are sounding pretty freakin' dense, the fact that you can claim Alabama's National Titles in Football and Softball, Florida and Kentucky's basketball success, etc. That's a little ridiculous.
I don't know any other fans who root for their conference except the SEC. And it isn't even the good teams. LSU fans don't pull for South Carolina. Alabama fans don't pull for Ole Miss. Florida fans don't pull for Kentucky. It's your way of justifying the fact that your own school has done nothing football-wise to help the conference. Yes you won National Titles in baseball, I remember those, they get brought up in every single football argument, and congrats for those. But in football, outside of winning the East (and consequently getting slaughtered by Auburn in the SECCG) you don't have much to show for. That is why there is a sense of pride in the conference, not because you love the other teams. Because if you have a degree from South Carolina there shouldn't be much love for those other schools. (But who knows if you graduated from there or not, I'm just saying.) You can't help but just cheer for other schools. It's like the fans that go to Georgia Southern but since Southern plays FCS and not FBS and will never be nationally recognized they root for Georgia. It's the same exact thing.

That is nothing but a jealous rant. I get it....for over a year I have heard Clemson fans clamoring to get into the SEC. Now that you know you are tied to the ACC for life...it's a...the SEC is overrated....the SEC chant is dumb....you are dumb to pull for conference teams in OOC games. If you hate it soooo much then why did every Clemson fan I know want to be a part of it ? If you can't have it....trash it...I guess that is the real answer.

You have brainwashed yourself into thinking that everybody is jealous of your conference affiliation.
Clemson has been consistently better than Scar throughout our entire football history whether you have been in the ACC, the SEC, or an independent.

No I haven't convinced myself....you guys have. I came here to have some intelligent conversations about football and all I hear is Gamecocks suck....players are dirty...low lifes. I never put down the Clemson players or program. I love where we are and you guys apparently don't. You spend 90% of your time on Cockytalk anyway so you have no room to talk. I wonder why ? You are the reason I joined Tigernet. Just see if there were some decent Clemson fans here....there are many...but there are some that are just like you. delusional...and jealous....if you weren't you could just talk football in a normal way. You don't here and you don't on Cockytalk. You even made up a UGA Dawg name to troll there. You are a Clemson fan...pretending to be a Dawg fan....on a Gamecocks site. That's a delusional person if I ever saw one. Noe everyone on Tigernet knows who you really are.

To be honest you sound like a bunch of IDIOTS when you start riding each others nuts in the SEC, just stop it. When UGA and USC play they dont like each other so stop with the WE ARE THE SEC. Let me ask you something, does it feel good to know that bama is racking up NCs while yall sit at home and watch with us low life ACC schools? ORRRRRRRR ha you rather have YOUR school win your on NC?? There is no way you can tell me you hate a team one week and can pull for them another. Its plain foolish so just stop OMG the whole I get chills when I hear SEC is so lame lol

Why do you have to hate ? I don't hate the SEC schools and in an OOC game I am going to pull for them. If you chose to pull against ACC teams in OOC games that's your business. I don't care about that. It's not riding the coattail it's " the more successful the conference teams are, the more successful the conference". This is not rocket science....No other fan bases have to feel this way...it makes the conference more valuable when our teams win OOC. Just good ole common sense.

Alabama fans were chanting it in the National Championship game...lol. They don't do it at SEC events just when the opposition is not an SEC team.... it is meant to be a message. It's apparent the message is heard loud and clear.

Alabama is an SEC school...they were playing a non SEC school...they were giving them a beat down.....they started chanting SEC because that's what happens when you play an SEC school for the National Championship....you get a beat down and the fans let them know....this is SEC football boys. I know you don't get it but my expectations on you getting anything are just non existent.
