Happy Easter from me and the UMC...

I was in my church today, and really enjoyed the service and the meaning of it all.

Our denomination has lost 1/4 of our churches over the last few years, but we're still kicking.

God Bless and Jesus has Risen!

I have stayed, and will be staying in the UMC. If you ever visit a UMC church, I hope you feel welcomed by the congregation.

I have a lot of Methodist friends. Their churches all left UMC.
What UMC can't figure out is Jesus instructed sinners to repent. He did not welcome them to continue in their sinful lifestyle. Paul, at inspiration of The Holy Spirit, forbade the toleration of sexual immorality in the congregation. The UMC is at best officially tolerating sin, and in actuality it is my opinion they are bordering on officially endorsing sin.
What part of the Bible is UMC missing?

How do you tell people that are gluttonous-overeatres that want to marry in your church that you can't do that? Also, how do you keep obese gluttonous overeaters out of the pulpit at your church? I'm sure you guys have to draw a line at letting that sin flourish. So let me know how you handle that at your church.

Also, do you allow women to be pastors at your church?

Thanks.

Is gluttony on list of sins Paul said would keep you out of heaven? Is gluttony called an "abomination unto God" anywhere in Scripture.
No. We do not let women preach.

You are willing to allow the gluttonous (one of the 7 deadly sins) to marry & be pastors under your roof.

And on top of that, you treat women as 2nd class citizens in spite of the clear wishes of the bible that Women should be able to prophecy.

If I run into anyone in your church, I'm going to hope they leave, because your church is awash in sin.

Acts says your sons & daughters will prophesy. And prophesy includes the act of preaching. It is actually broader than just preaching and is inclusive of preaching. There's no doubt that when you look throughout the Bible, there are numerous situations where women lead & teach. There's Esther, Deborah, Huldah, Mary Magdalene, and others. And Jesus' own actions upon resurrection make it clear that women can prophesy and be leaders. He broke all the supposed rules. Your church that doesn't allow women pastors is sinning against women and mis-reading the bible.

Gluttony is mentioned in numerous parts of the bible, and is a sin. There's no doubt about that. And your church is fine with having a gluttonous pastor & marrying gluttonous people.

So, your church is awash in sin. And I hope people leave your church.

Paul was plain on not allowing women to preach. It was not a cultural command. Study the passage in Greek. Pay his verbage close attention.
Gluttony is mentioned in Scripture, but not listed with the sins that will keep one out of heaven and not listed in sins to kick out of church.

If you pay attention to the verbiage and the different vocabulary used, Paul didn’t write 1 Timothy.

Paul was talking about specific women and not all women....

You and your "Independent Baptist" church have mis-read the Bible. Paul wouldn't dare go against Jesus' own appearing first to the women and first sending the women to spread the news. You, and your church, are taking Paul out of context and ignoring the numerous parts of the rest of the Bible that support women preaching & leading. It's all over the Bible and supported by Jesus himself.

Gluttony is mentioned numerous times as a sin in the Bible, and your congregation ignores it when choosing pastors or marrying people.

Your church is awash in sin, and hopefully people will leave your church.

How do you know what my church does? We do not belong to any denomination. We are an independent Baptist Church. Do you have a clue how physically fit our pastoral staff is or is not? Do you know whether or not we eat fried Chicken at every social? Seems you like to view the world through prejudice. I commented on the UMC denomination which I am knowledgeable of. You commented on my church, of which you have no knowledge.
Paul said what he said. It does not go against Jesus teaching or actions.

You've come into these threads specifically to attack the UMC, because you "know people" who left the UMC. And I'm just turning it back on you and your church, and pointing out that you also allow "sin" to fester in your church.

All churches. All denominations. All congregations have issues within their own house. That includes your great Independent Baptist church.

You cast the first stone. But you are not without sin. That's my broader point, although you're too dense to see it.

Your church excludes women from leadership, even though the Bible commands that they be allowed to preach and lead. You yourself said your church doesn't allow it. So, you are sinning against women. Your church is immoral in your misogyny. And you're OK with it. Therefore YOU are sinning against women.

These exact kind of conversations are and were such a big turn-off for religion.

You guys, who ostensibly both really believe the bible, can't even agree on what it says yet both of you will fervently tell others they should believe your interpretation.

It's mind-blowing.

First agressive, then a meek little mouse.

I'm not sure why arguments among Christians blows your mind. Are you really being honest there? What I mean is that there's literally nothing on this planet where people agree all the time. Politics. Sports. Religion. Business. Where there are people, there are disagreements. And it's one of the constants in life.

So, if Christians arguing about what the Bible means bothers you - as you so loudly claim it does - then you're gonna have a tough life. Because in my house, we can't even agree about what to eat for dinner. Life is nothing but a series of disagreements, with occasional light shining through.

But sure, go ahead. Be especially bothered by us Christians. Knock yourself out.
