Jack Leggett newspaper ad
Jun 15, 2015, 12:39 PM
|
|
Wow. Pretty tasteless if you ask me. I'm neither a Jack pumper nor a Jack dumper, but I think including "you deserved better" was a pretty classless move.
I'm all for taking out the ad to thank Jack, but those who made the ad made it about themselves and their own opinion instead of simply thanking Jack for what he has done here.
Bad move to include "you deserved better" IMO

I agree 100%. I think all those that signed that letter should find other schools to support. We don't need this kind of "fan". Good riddance.

Cj Spiller and Jacoby Ford were among those names on the ad. Two great ambassadors for our university. I'm not saying it's right but everyone is entitled to their opinion

I seriously doubt that CJ and Jacoby vetted the ad

before it was placed. They were probably approached by someone to help pay for an ad that "thanks Coach Leggett and shows support for him". I imagine they're just as surprised by the bitter note of the ad as many of us are. Both Spiller and Ford are great ambassadors for Clemson and rarely if ever do anything to reflect unkindly on the university.
OTOH, maybe this is an indication of a rift growing between former athletes and DRad. Worth some investigation IMO.

A B S O L U T E L Y >>> not a doubt in my mind that they gave their permission to use their name in a Thank You ad only. I'm sure none of them knew that it was going to be made tasteless or classless in any way. It actually sounds like something personal added by whom ever place the ad.

or former coaches within the athletics department. Maybe they thought he deserved a bigger buyout, or a role in the athletics department. We have no idea. But I'm not going to cast aspersions to folks that actually put on the uniform.
I'd have left off that part, but they know a different side and a different story than we do.

Sully and Corbin. They are both listed in the ad. Only a complete moron would think one of them would come be head coach here after the way their mentor was treated.

Anytime you have a coach that has been at a school as long as Jack and has been as succuessful as Jack you're going to have a lot of people upset if he is let go. I know there is a very vocal group that doesn't like Jack and have wanted him gone since 2010, but he has been a good coach at Clemson.

"you deserved better"-was actually a misprint. I should have said "we deserved better".
Jack is not coming back so lets move on and support the new coaching staff but more importantly let's support the players.

I agree 100%. Let just create further divide within the fan base. I just hope nobody takes out a full page saying "Thanks Jack but Clemson deserves better performance."
What's done is done. It's our place to support the future of the program.

Wait a minute, some clown using the derogatory "Jack Leg" is calling something a tasteless move? Yeah, you're not a Jack Dumper at all. You're just a lying POS.
What a hypocritical moron. You ought to at least be smart enough to hide your true colors.

But emotions are running high on both sides of this issue so I don't think it's anything to get one's knickers in a wad about. I think everyone at Clemson wishes Jack could have stayed forever while winning championships and CWS berths every couple years. But he hadn't done that in several years, and at least 1 in-state and several ACC programs had surpassed ours with him at the helm, and CLEMSON deserves better. It is about more than the person coaching the team.
Had Leggett been given a contract extension, we would have become the baseball version of football at Virginia Tech...good but struggling program with an occasionally really good season but one whose best years had passed. I bet there are a lot of people at VT who are wishing the AD would step up and tell Frank Beamer it's time to go. Would that make folks upset? Sure, but it doesn't make it wrong. People were upset when Bobby Bowden was sent packing, but it was still the right decision. Look how fast FSU turned their program around.
