Gigabit is fast enough, but I think 10 Gbps is an option here if I wanted to pay for it.

when people claim to have "cut the cable" when in really All they really do is become super dependent on a single cable.

I've had Charter/Spectrum for 24 years. The internet has messed up on my far more than the TV service because there are more parts..

modem goes bad.. no internet - no tv
router goes bad. no internet - no tv
splitter goes bad.. no internet - no tv

Cable box only went out 2 or 3 times in that time frame before i tossed it to save the $6.99/month. I was hesitant to get rid of it for this reason But so far the newest Modem charter gave me has held up pretty well. I also ran cat 5 to all the rooms so i don't need to rely on wifi.

I go through a router at least once every 3 years.

their fiber comes all the way inside my house, but I guess some providers who claim to have fiber, still have cable going from the street to your house! So, is that really fiber? That cable is a weak link!

Not really, but sometimes everyone in the house is using the connection at the same time for streaming video and stuff like that so it's good to have a lot of bandwidth. 4k video uses a lot. Plus it was only slightly more expensive than the slower option.

We are testing 2Gig for residential right now for our fiber customers but not thinking anyone but gamers would be purchasing that package.

I have overkill for what I need at 6x6 but as you mentioned the cost differential was not that much so thought better to have it and not need it.

Are you referring to Comporium? If so are they only rolling out in Tega Cay to compete with Google? In my experience Comporium's biggest issue is whoever they use upstream, I see bottlenecks fairly often during peak hours for anything not inside Comporium's network.

Most of those tv processors are crap imo, at least the ones I have had so far. I believe that’s why the cost of tv’s are so cheap now, or seem to be cheaper in comparison to the first version of flat screens. I put apple tv’s on mine but a lot of folks that are swapping are putting in Firesticks.

Saves on the cost of equipment but the channel providers keep upping their prices so it’s still a bad deal money wise.

I’m on YouTube at $78 I believe. It’s had everything I have needed so far.

But I have 3-4 other streaming services as well so probably in the $110-120 overall.

The CATV here is very expensive imo.

$80 for TV and then all the taxes and whatnot.

i've looked into the streaming servers but they all have user limits. Spectrum lets me stream on all 5 of my TVS at once and phones.

2 of my kids are at Clemson 9 months outta the year and my youngest only streams the 3rd party apps.
so i'm starting to question my need for more than 2

but yeah it adds up:
$140 internet/ TV
Disney +
Paramount +
Amazon Prime
Hulu / Showtime
Max

and honestly outside of Sports i hardly watch anything on Charter. I actually watch the free Samsung TV that comes with the new Samsung TV more than anything.

I have long been an Apple TV fan, but have slowly changed my opinion. Samsung TVs seem to do a pretty good job. What do you not like about the TV apps? What does Apple TV give you that the apps don’t?

They all have downsides in my opinion. They all run the identical program of punishing you for being foolish enough to remain loyal to them. You stay with them, they jack up your rates. Same with insurance companies, same with cellular service, same with home security.

The channel providers do nothing but increase their rates. CATV passes along that cost. One issue some of these channels come in package deals and you may only watch 1 out of the whole bundle, but you are indeed paying for the whole bundle. We can see how much traffic a particular channel gets and periodically take channels out and add newer ones. In reality most people do not watch but a few channels but pay for over a hundred. Add Peacock and Paramount + and you could end up with a big expense in comparison to watch you are actually watching.
