It made the point that white southerners, for the most part, do not consider the flag a symbol of support of slavery. You understand that, right?

I agree and I'm as southern as it gets. I used to wear the Dixie outfitter shirts and have the stickers on my truck as a teenager. Now I could care less about it and if some people don't like it take it down. Who gives a #### about a war fought over 150 years ago.

The Confederate flag was put on the State House in 1962 in remembrance of the start of the Civil War.The flag was to brought down but it didn't.Hate groups have adopted the flag and African Americans don't feel comfortable with it on the State grounds. For those reasons it should be removed.ACC tourney come back.

Actually, we opened fire on Ft. Sumter April 12, 1861. Not sure why they would have celebrated the 100th anniversary (in SC)in 1962. But I agree with your original sentiment. My understanding was that it was put on the Capital because of SC's resistance to Integration and the Civil Rights Movement (Strom and the Dixiecrats).
I always thought it interesting that Strom was so anti-integration when he himself had a black daughter. Politicians, you can't live with them and you can't cut them into little pieces and mail them to the South Pole.

I could not care less where the flag is, but....
Confederate Navy Jack: Used as a navy jack at sea from 1863 onward. This flag has become the generally recognized symbol of the South.
It is necessary to disclaim any connection of the flag to neo-nazis, red-necks, skin-heads and the like. These groups have adopted this flag and desecrated it by their acts. They have no right to use this flag - it is a flag of honor, designed by the confederacy as a banner representing state's rights and still revered by the South. In fact, under attack, it still flies at the South Carolina capitol building. The South denies any relation to these hate groups and denies them the right to use the flags of the confederacy for any purpose. The crimes committed by these groups under the stolen banner of the confederacy only exacerbate the lies which link the secession to slavery interests when, from a Southerner's view, the cause was state's rights.
My question is..if it is taken down, do the hate groups win because they stole the flag? And also, the American flag has 13 stripes to recognize the 13 original colonies. Most of the colonies fought under the Confederate flag. Should the 13 stripes be taken off of the American flag and 13 stars removed?

it was put up as a big ole white middle finger to desegregation and the Civil Rights movement? Spare me the history of this flag. If anything, since everyone in this state is always screaming about "let us do what we wanna do", then put that flag up to a vote because the politicians don't have the cajones to do anything.

Your last question is by far the dumbest I've seen on TigerNet.
How can we as whites, ask blacks to move on from the past and forgive for what was done to them, while flying that flag glorifying that same past? Take it down. If you're a Christian and think Jesus would let that flag fly you're sadly mistaken.

South Carolina has a huge black eye right now because of that flag.
I was born and raised in South Carolina. I've never understood the fascination over a flag for a losing cause that had some pretty dubious reasons for ever happening to begin with.
Long past time to let it go. Especially given the reason it was put back up in the first place (as TigerDrummer has already noted).

The Confederate Monument is a statue - the Confederate Flag is currently flying on a pole just next to the monument. The discussion is about removing the flag (and of course the pole I would assume!).

Clemson born and Clemson breed when I die I'll be Clemson dead. In other words I was born in South Carolina and I Love South Carolina (the state not the school if you want to calli it one) and after what happened in Charleston I realized it is time it comes down. My Dad was raised in a different time from me and he would have never saw it the way I see it now. It's 2015, it time to put the past behind us.

It didn't, any more than the American flag caused the attack on the world trade center. The American flag stands for freedom and democracy and all that is good about America. The confederate flag was allowed by "honorable" southerners to be adopted by the KKK, white supremacists and even the Nazi party that had a rally on the SC State house steps to congratulate SC for "it's courage in flying the confederate flag.
Where the flag once stood for heritage, good southerners allowed it's worst elements to steal the flag and fly it in the name of prejudice, hatred, anti-civil rights and racism.
The confederate flag didn't cause the attacks in Charleston. But the culture that supports it most certainly did. You'll notice that all those photos of Roof with the confederate flag aren't selfies.
IMHO

"Politically Correct" and actually dong the best thing for all concerned are one and the same. Take it off the dome, and put it somewhere on the statehouse grounds same as other monuments to other state historical events. It should be there as a reminder of history, so that this particular history (The Civil War) does not ever repeat itself.

Being a symbol of the Confederacy isn't much/any better than the symbol of hatred that it has become in the hands of certain groups today. After all, Confederate VP Alexander Stephens had this to say in his famous Cornerstone Speech:
"Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and moral condition."
It is part of our history and as such deserves to be preserved in museums, but there's no place for it at the state house.

That's why whites are on the streets defending blacks from gang shootings and drivebys. Perhaps a better question is, 'Do you think northern whites died to free southern blacks?' What, they couldn't see the impact on wage due to the increase of the supply of labor above the Mason Dixon line?

their own economic ad taxing system had nothing to do with the war. Nope..not at all.
Because everyone in the south owned slaves, so everyone had a vested interstate in making sure the slavery continued.
