Is anyone on here a little disappointed in how our QBs

Apr 12, 2017, 6:12 PM

looked. I mean we all know we are having to bring along someone other than Watson. But we have one QB that has been in the program three years already, one that has been in two, and one that is a 5-star that has only been here a couple of months. I expect a 5-star fresh in to not be all that hot right now, but it is surprising to me that the man the coaches say is #1 at the moment is matter of fact referred to as the one without a passing game. How could anyone without a strong passing part of his game even be in this position?

We are going to have one of, if not, the nation's best defense. I expect the offense to not be nearly as good as they were with Watson, but I don't expect to go to having no offense at all. And that will be the case if we don't have a QB that at least has passing as part of his game.

Had Auburn not lucked out and gotten the Baylor QB transfer, I don't think they could have scored enough to beat us. Now this year's game might be role reversal. They have the great QB and we might be the ones shuffling in four or five different guys. But even if we do have an all-world defense, if we have no offense at all, the other team won't have to score much to beat us. One of the best defenses we had was 2010 and we went 6-6 because we simply had no offense. I know Hunter Johnson and Trevor Lawrence will be lighting it up in a couple of years, but until then we should not have a starting qb that doesn't even consider his passing game a competent part of his game.

Auburn just wrote a bigger check.

Our National Championship, has set the standard higher than it's ever been in recent memory, and we will expect nothing but the best. The thing that gets me is how we rebound AFTER perfection, and a national championship. I think of Auburn in 2011, the year after they won in '10. I'm not sure what their record was that year, but I know it wasn't nearly as good as the previous national championship year with Cam Newton. I hope i am proven wrong, but that drop off "could" happen this season. Lord willing I hope it doesnt. With our awesome defense tho, I feel as if teams won't be scoring many points, 14-17 at the most, during most games this season, on us. If we can just muster up enough offense during the season, then we will win 10 games and keep that streak alive.

Apr 12, 2017, 6:27 PM

based on what he saw throughout the entirety of Spring practice, not just what a young man did with a tweaked hamstring and a torn ligament in his finger did during a very scripted practice, right? You're new here, I'll give you a pass,81-85 isn't posting unless he's whining about something.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh no doubt, we will probably have two, three or even four

losses. But that would still be a good year. 10-3, 9-4 and be building for another playoff run when the highly ranked QBs get seasoned. However, we have probably the nation's best defense this year, so if we somehow manage to have a good offense, we could make a surprising run this year.

I'm disappointed that under Streeter Bryant has not shown the improvement in the passing game that we need. He,Cooper, and Johnson have all summer to improve their games before fall practice. May the the one who gets proficient at running and passing get the job.

But then again our defense would make DW look weak. We will know by the 2nd quarter in the Auburn game.

KB can throw the ball obviously. Maybe you know more than our coaches though idk. Sign this man up Dabo if you wanna win a championship. If KB is the starter I believe he can go 15-0. Whoever the coaches pick.

Re: Is anyone on here a little disappointed in how our QBs

Apr 12, 2017, 7:06 PM

Can he throw it accurately enough to complete the throws in our offense? Can he be accurate on downfield passes when needed? Of course he can throw the football. I've seen Johnson on film and he does have the tools to run the offense. He's just having to get used to the speed of the college game. Cooper may be the best option besides Bryant. What can Bruce contribute? All fans just want our best player at qb who can execute the current offense. We got spoiled by Watson.

Re: Is anyone on here a little disappointed in how our QBs

Apr 13, 2017, 4:33 AM

Well the first half of last year people on here were saying DW was inaccurate. We just do not know untill he gets thrown in the fire. The spring game is one thing. I like his and Coopers skill and Johnson looked pretty good Saturday. TI was by far our best passer so maybe he should start. Whoever the coaches take I believe will get the job done. We just do not know how they will be untill we hand them the keys. Practice and the spring game are a lot different than a real game. I would give KB a shot unless we cannot score on Kent St than it is time to go to the next option. I like Cooper he looks similar to DW but he needs to step his game up.

Apr 12, 2017, 7:13 PM

I thought Zerrick looked the best IMO. Good velocity on his throws, good accuracy, can extend plays with his feet. Our defense applied a ton of pressure in the spring game, and that made him look a little sloppy at times. He also forced that one ball that was intercepted. Those are things that can be fixed with more reps. KB's arm talent is not something that can be coached unfortunately. I can't see him holding onto the spot through fall camp unless he has a huge summer. Hunter looked like a true freshmen with a lot of talent, but no where close to being a starter. Tucker looked good, but he doesn't have a realistic chance of starting IMO.

Man, guys, think about it. I'll help.

Four quarterbacks, working with 10+ wide receivers, 6 tight ends, 12+ offensive linemen, and at least 4 running backs. How good can someone really look when being attacked by probably one of the deepest and talented defensive units in the country. You can not hardly even get a pecking order to begin the fall based on this spring game. Clemson has a TON of talent on offense, it needs to be coached, it needs reps, and it needs a first unit, second unit and 3rd unit, and you will get that in the fall.

I leave it to Elliott, Scott and Swinney to put their collective heads together and when they find the right one or two, then the talent will take over and it will be good to get first team reps on a daily basis with Cain, McCloud, Renfrow, Fuller/Feaster, and the first team offensive line. Any presumption on who is the starter at this point is just a guessing game.

I agree. Cooper is Bryant's main competition right now. Hunter is going to be very good when he totally grasps the college game. What happens next January when Lawrence joins the competition?

Every one seems to be overlooking a young man by the name of Chase Brice. Don't know if he can pick up the system this summer, but I think he will be a force to reckon with at some point in time. He is a winner. Just go back and watch him in the championship game in case you have forgotten. We too deep!!!

I could try to ease the poster's concerns with logic, but why?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah, of course, a little bit disappointed to be honest.

Apr 12, 2017, 8:11 PM

Look, we all knew there would be a pretty big drop off after Watson. And we all knew there were several candidates battling for the top spot, and regardless of who was named the starter, they're not gonna be Watson. We may very well struggle a little bit on offense in 2017, compared to what we're used to the last couple years. Duh. This isn't rocket surgery.

But yes, in my dreams, I had hopes that one guy would rise up and shine a little bit in the spring. Whether it was Bryant due to being in the system longer, or Johnson because he's the hotshot HS kid with unbelievable raw talent, etc, whatever. I won't lie, I was hoping to see someone give us a big shot of - "Wow, did you see _______ !! He looked really good !!" Even if it was short-lived and the hype was gone by fall camp... it woulda been nice. LOL

And we really didn't get that. What we got was about what you'd expect. All of them had their moments, and they all struggled some. So we'll have to wait until fall and see it all shakes out. Worried and concerned? No. A tad bit disappointed? Sure.

Why don't you lose the whinney attitude---The biggest issue is to find a RB to allow the QB to grow.

Apr 13, 2017, 2:04 AM

I don't base my opinion on the spring game. KB was a legacy recruit or whatever you call it. He was never a real good passer even in HS. Should say accurate passer. To me the main thing is he's quick to take off and run. What a waste of great receivers if we don't have an accurate passer.

Just my opinion but i believe Bama had several 5 star qb's that were passed over in favor of Hurts. Hurts and HJ had the same recruiting rating. Just my opinion but I have always wanted to go with a freshman and let them grow with the team vs starting someone for 1, possibly 2 years max.

Not a unique argument. In fact, the same argument that Bama fans were split on 1 year ago.

I can't believe you people that want KB or ZC going around and TD everyone and call everyone a coot because they have a different opinion. Childish.

Correction Hurts had the same rating as Zerrick Cooper

Apr 13, 2017, 2:20 AM

Not HJ. Anyway, Point being is Hunter has the skills to get us 15-0 next year with the D we have. I don't want to have to settle for a10+ season.

Cooper has more than enough skill to get us 15-0. Heck I think TI could get us 15-0 he threw the ball very well and gave our WRs a chance in one on ones.

Re: Is anyone on here a little disappointed in how our QBs

Apr 13, 2017, 6:23 AM

No disappointment. The scrimmage was setup for maximum QB pressure. It gave all the QB's a lot of experiences that are needed to gain quick thinking under pressure. In real games the o-line and game plan will give the one extra second that makes all the difference. It was a great scrimmage. Just glad that with all the intense hits by the defense, no one was lost for the season. The recievers got the same pressure as the QB's. PI calls against the D didn't seem to be a priority. When our QB's get 3-4 seconds pocket protection in a real game, this scrimmage will be icing in the cake
