Interesting how Kiffin, Spurrier, prob some other SEC teams

Jan 15, 2013, 1:30 PM

screw kids over during the recruiting process by offering more kids than they can actually accpet, but it doesn't really seem to effect future recruits.

We miss out on a few guys and have to go late on several prospects putting us behind the 8-ball so to speak when these other programs just offer and recruit everyone and then let them go.

You'd think that practice would've caught up to Spurrier and these guys but it seems like it's actually helped SCar compete with Clemson and the other bigger SEC teams.

Names of players screwed over by Spurrier?? Sounds alot like post yesterday where he was accused of running Lattimore in ground by having him run +40 every freakin game. Facts didn't bear that out. But if you feel better, good for you.

Actually quite different

Having your offer yanked the day before signing day is not the same as being told your playing career at a school is over but that you can remain on scholarship and get your degree.

Nope, not the same thing at all

People have short memories and don't give a crap what happens to other people. The lure of the SEC is too enticing sometimes.
I think integrity helps us, particularly if it is the right kind of kid that likes the small town family atmosphere. I think pulling this kind of crap would hurt us in the long run.
I think many kids that choose the SEC schools to compete against the perceived best competition and will do whatever it takes to get there. Even if it means ignoring these types of things. For Sack to have pulled the dirt peckers out of the doormat role to top 10, he had to use these kinds of tactics to get tangible results quickly. Now they have momentum, which is the most important thing to a program IMO. When we fired Ford we had the momentum and Hatfield killed it in less than 3 years and it took 21 years to get close to where we were.

Why the hate towards Hatfield? He won football games!

from ClemsonWiki: Hatfield was 32-13-1 and took the Tigers to three bowls, won the conference championship, and with a victory over Illinois in the 1991 Hall of Fame Bowl, he became the first Clemson coach to win ten games in his first year and his .833 winning percentage was the best for a first-year coach since 1900 when John Heisman went 6-0. The season included included six wins over teams with winning records, more than any other team that year with the exception of National Champion Georgia Tech.
Hatfield was also just the eighth coach in the previous thirteen years to take a team to a Top 10 Associated Press final ranking in his first year with the program, as the Tigers finished the season ranked ninth in the AP poll. The Clemson gridders would also rank in the Top 25 in 1991 and 1993. Clemson was the third school that Hatfield had coached to a Top 20 ranking (Air Force at fifteenth in 1983, Arkansas with four Top 20 rankings). Only five other coaches have achieved that in NCAA history.

I think it's the kid's ego.

Probably fed by the media, mama and friends. They just don't believe it could happen to them.

It's a part of that time of life. 10 feet tall and bulletproof.

At least one coach agrees with this.

Jan 15, 2013, 3:01 PM

"Walter Banks, the coach of Jordan Montgomery, the other recruit whose scholarship offer was pulled the day before National Signing Day, told The Wall Street Journal, "I told [South Carolina coaches] this was foul. I didn't have a clue until 18 hours before signing day, and if they say anything else, they're lying."[37] Banks also told The State that South Carolina coaches are "no longer welcome" at his high school (South Lake High School in Groveland, Florida) saying, "I cannot look a kid and their parent in the face and say you can trust what a University of South Carolina coach says."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oversigning#South_Carolina_and_Steve_Spurrier

BTW, I can't find word one about whatever happened to Jordan Montgomery after this. There's a Coot baseball player with the same name but he's not the football player.

No coincidence that OBS doesn't want 2 year schollys
