Why can't Clemson get big name concerts anymore?

Years ago they had Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett, Boston, Rolling Stones, Doobie Bros, etc.
Did the university just quit trying?

No alcohol sales to defary the costs of putting on a show, liability insurance for the event, cost of the acts that would fill up a stadium or basketball arena, competition from other similar size venues, population center too small for some touring artists, University decided the profit margin wasn't worth the trouble in general. I'm guessing here, but I'm sure there are some very valid reasons that you don't see this at Clemson anymore. The live music industry today is a completely different animal than it was even 10 years ago. As someone that follows live music very closely, I don't see college campuses as venues much at all anymore when I'm looking for shows to go to.

nothing. Even some of the cultural events we used to go to like the Chinese acrobats, comedians, authors, etc. don't come anymore.

David Oneppo is as solid as bass players get. That said, pick any day between Thursday and Sunday any week of the year and there is most likely an Oneppo Brothers duo or full band show somewhere in York County on that day.

weekend at Hartwell Marina FYI. Looks like the best menu of all the lake restaurants.
I remember Luke Bryan came and played over at Y-beach like 10 years ago, but he turned the stage around so you couldn't really hear anything but muffled noise if you went by boat. Not that it would have sounded any better otherwise, but I thought that was very petty.
I still remember going with my parents by boat to sit out and listen to The Eagles concert when they played at Death Valley. I don't remember exactly what the problem was, but we ended up having to drive back to the dock backwards which made for a long, long night. For me anyway, I was not of age to partake in the beer drinking festivities. What was that, mid 90's?

Exactly what I was thinking.
Who post-90's or maybe early 2000's bands could sell more than a couple hundred tix?

The City of Rock Hill LOVES social security acts.

They do a concert series on the front lawn of city hall every summer and charge $80 for a ticket to see a band that had one hit in the 70s and the only original member left in the group is usually the roadie who polished the mic stands.
