I'm not saying we would win all of them, but I really like

the idea of continuing to schedule a big OOC game near the beginning of the year a la Bama, Auburn, UGAy.

Strength of schedule is going to be paramount in this new playoff system in my opinion and we can't necessarily afford to count on the rest of the ACC to help us out.

I'd like to see us reach out and schedule UF, Texas, OSU, Oregon, Mich, Stanford, OU--perennial powers who we don't usually get to play and see how we stack up.

You don't get to be the best without playing the best!!

As long as we don't go jumping off bridges

when we lose the opener. I live down in Atlanta, which is solid red. The sports radio station down here has been overwhelmed with people whining, wanting Richt's head, fans throwing Aaron Murray under the bus, whining that SCU is going to beat them up, etc etc.

The funny/sad thing is that a mere week ago, these same people were making the heisman case for Murray, talking about the national championship, etc.

If we're going to schedule the big boys, we can't be so bi-polar. The season is long, and it takes a perfect alignment of the stars to win a national championship.

I think we will be seeing an emergence of FSU and UM

back to national prominence. Louisville is there now for a couple of years. You really only have to play 2-3 quality teams a year, plus win your conference to be in the big game now. That will definitely get us in the playoff. I do like beating the crap of the cream of the crop in the $EC though.

Stregnth of schedule is important but would losing

a game against a tougher opponent be seen as more impressive than going undefeated regardless of SoS?

There's something in these hills.

Only if you lose to an SEC team

I'm only being mostly facetious. We all know one-loss SEC teams still get the benefit of the doubt over undefeateds elsewhere.

Strength of schedule does nothing at all for you if you end up going 8-4. Only 4 teams get in, so obviously you're gonna have to be undefeated or have 1 loss to even hope to make it in. Our strength of schedule year in and year out is plenty enough to be able to go 12-0 and get in.

Shouldn't you be working on your Law Blog?

I agree with that but if you go 12-1 and that one loss is to OSU or Oregon or Bama, I think you still get comfortably vs. going 13-0 in a year when we don't play ND (everyone's perennial overrated team), FSU has a down year, and we end up playing a 4-loss UNC/GT/UM team in the ACC Champ Game and we're sweating it out.

It's stupid but I think you get penalized less for playing those teams and losing than running the table in a perceived "weak" conference. Watch what happens with Louisville this year and I think that would preview our worst-case-scenario running the table (assuming there's ever a year the ACC is as bad as whatever the Big East is now called)
